🍴MENU TIP: This family favorite recipe is from our Summer Menu Planning Made Easy set!
Ingredients needed:
- Ground beef
- Italian sausage
- Yellow onion
- Spaghetti sauce
- Sour cream
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Crescent rolls or dough sheet
How do you make Upside Down Pizza Casserole with Ground Beef?
Start by browning ground beef, Italian sausage, and onion in a large skillet. Cook until brown and crumbly and drain.
Add 1 1/2 cups of your favorite spaghetti or pizza sauce (even marinara sauce would work) and cook on low for ten minutes until nice and combined.
Grab your favorite casserole dish (13 x 9 is best!) and pour the meat mixture in. Top with a layer of sour cream, and then a layer of shredded cheese.
Roll out crescent rolls, pinching seams together to form a dough sheet. Place over top of the cheese.
Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes until crescents are cooked through.
One of the BEST things about this recipe is that you can add or change to include your favorite pizza toppings. Bell peppers, black olives, pepperoni – any and all would work with this pizza casserole recipe. Some people also like to make a Bisquik crust for the top, but we love the convenience of the crescent rolls!

This one is a hit. It’s very simple with only a few ingredients. When I was sick and my husband made it. I use the Ragu chunky garden combination sauce. It is great exactly how it is. It could be a whole meal without a side. My son is 4 and going through the won’t eat anything phase. So I dice up a few extra veggies and toss in. I have added mushrooms , bell peppers, carrots and zucchini. This hides them really well.
