No Bake Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies
Shannon here!
I love a good no bake cookie – but if you are like me then sometimes they turn out gooey and sometimes they turn out too hard. After years of making them I have figured out the secret to making these no bake peanut butter oatmeal cookies just right! 😉
Growing up my grandma always made these so they are known as “grandma cookies” in my family. When she passed I got the pleasure of making no bake cookies aka “grandma cookies” for the family.
It for sure took me years to figure out the secret. These are also the easiest cookies. This recipe is great because you do not even have to bake them!
You can use crunchy peanut butter if you prefer but honestly we love them with just plain creamy. You could also use sunflower or almond butter if there are allergies that you need to avoid peanut products too.
Ingredients
- 2 Cups Sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 stick butter
- 2 1/2 cup of quick oatmeal
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
Here's how to make the BEST No Bake Cookies:
First place milk, butter, sugar, cocoa, vanilla in pot. I put the liquids in first and let them cook while I add the other ingredients. I do not know if that makes a difference though.
Stir cook on medium/medium high. This really depends on your oven.
This is KEY and the secret to making the best no bake cookies — when it comes to a boil (like pictured above) set your timer to 3 minutes on gas. Since posting this to FB I noticed some readers said 1 minute on electric range. So it really does depend on your oven.
This is the other KEY thing – continually stir the whole 3 minutes – preferably with a wooden spoon.
Make sure to have the peanut butter and oatmeal already to stir in when the 3 minutes are done. I make my daughter stir while I get the peanut butter and oatmeal measured out. (If you double the recipe cook for 5 minutes) This measuring cup really is great when baking with peanut butter.
Remove from stove top and add the oatmeal and peanut butter with a spoon.
Drop on wax paper. Let sit for 20 minutes or until cool.
VOILA No Bake Cookies! They turn out sooo good!!

If cookies crumble next time only boil for
55 seconds. If cookies don’t set up next
time add 5 seconds to the time until lit
sets up for u. It’s an art!!! Use same
heavy bottom pan and long handle large
spoon! It hurts when it splatters on your
hand.
With the peanut butter ones you do the
same thing except no cocoa powder and
a half a cup more oats!!!

Would almond butter work in place of peanut butter?

We haven’t tried that yet but I bet it would work great! Let us know if you decide to try it. 🙂

Are there changes in the amount of milk if you don’t use the cocoa? I love the ones without the chocolate.
Brooke says
I have not made it without the cocoa before but let us know if you try that!
