I just love me a happy spice cabinet makeover, don't you? 🙂
After moving last December I finally decided it was time to reorganize my space cabinet with the right things for the space I have, and oh my word ~ it makes me so happy. (It's the little things in life, don't you think?)
It wasn't really all that bad before, but it's even better now. 🙂
Here's what I did as I was cleaning it out (that you can go do too if you have a few minutes this weekend!)
- Raised the shelves so that I had more space in between the lower shelves.
- Got rid of any expired spices.
- Saved duplicate spices to give to my college-aged kids for their apartments.
- Ordered the Spicy Shelf from Amazon and set it up on the bottom shelf.
- Also used two of these lazy susans (I had them already).

Before . . .Â
NOT terrible at all, but my organizers didn't work as well in the space I have, and I desperately needed to move my bottom shelves up higher.Â
This Spicy Shelf from Amazon (or even less on Walmart) is perfect because it fits into almost any size space you have – from 7 3/8″ all the way up to 32″ if you need it!
After.Â
Success!
After going through the spices I had in an organizer similar to this one (but a little larger), I realized that I had a ton of duplicate spices and that the container took up a LOT of valuable space. By clearing out the extras I have SO much more space for what we actually use.
Win, win!
If you're looking for a few other spice cabinet organizers, we rounded up a bunch of PPP reader favorite Spice Cabinet Organizers in this post.Â
And, in case you need a little more inspiration here's my spice cabinet makeover from way back in 2016. Not too shabby, but I'm loving my new one even more!
Spice Cabinet Makeover Spring 2016
I bought the most fun organizing toy ever this weekend, and couldn't wait to share it with you!Â
We have a slew of family coming in for Easter this weekend, and the disaster in my spice cabinet has been long overdue for some attention.
So, after hearing a friend mention how much she loved this, I decided I had to try it out.
It's genius.Â
It even comes with pre-printed labels, so you can feel oh-so-organized!
And I loved that most of the spices I use from Aldi, Kroger, and Walmart all fit right inside the organizer.
Perfection.
I haven't seen it ever drop in price below $39.99 (if you find one for less I'd love to hear about it), but part of the problem with organizing at my house is that I'm so frugal sometimes I hate splurging on things that seem so frivolous.
But, if I lose everything in my spice cabinet and don't even know what's there (so buy extra stuff bc it all gets lost in the back shelf . . . ), I'm definitely not pinching any pennies.
So, a little on the frivolous side, but goodness I love it already (and will let you know if I'm able to keep things that tidy for a few days!)
Have you found any other ways to clean out your cabinets that have worked for you? I'd love to hear them ~ leave a comment to share!

I have older cabinets, the 2 beside the stove are right at 11″ wide inside , and A stationary shelf. I got tired of the spices always falling off the tiered wire shelf so off to Amazon I went. I found pull out, double tiered racks that I love. Now my spices are easy to see, easy to grab and no more falling out of the cabinet.

So glad you were able to find something to work for you! 🙂

What happened to your box style pull out organizer? You had glass bottles in it. Or did you purchase all new Kroger tins to replace them!
I do like the new spice rack though

Hi Rhonda! I actually realized a LOT in that container were either expired or duplicates – I had to replace only 3! The rest I’m sending to my son at college – the other one was great in my last kitchen, but this one works better here! 🙂

I have used turn-tables for my spices many years now, and alphabetizing spices to keep order. I even found a 2-tier one that holds the shorter containers, and makes life easier.

I too finally had to reorganize my spices and ended up buying some empty glass baby food jars off EBay some blank round labels and used free software from Avery and now they’re all in one drawer
I can open the drawer and look at all the labels at once to see what I need
Plus they hold a decent amount and measuring spoons fit easily in the opening
Linda-Rae Nichols says
I was wondering if medicine bottles would fit?
Susanna says
that’s an excellent idea! I would want one for that also!

Silly question, is everything that was in the “before” picture in the “after” picture?
It maybe that its because its organized, but none of them (from other sites too) look like they have as many items in the after/organized picture… Anybody elsse notice this?
