Walmart just launched a virtual clothes try on and it is a game changer. Give this virtual fitting room a try!
Virtual Clothes Try On Now Available in the Walmart App!
WOW!
If you love shopping from home but hate not being able to try on the clothes before you buy, you're going to LOVE this new feature that Walmart is pushing out. While Walmart has featured the “choose your model” in their online clothes department for some time, certain users are now able to scan an image of themselves and then see the clothes exactly how they would fit – right on them!
Walmart is calling this feature the “be your own model” experience and it really is a great idea.
How does the Walmart virtual fitting room work?
Walmart acquired Zeekit back in the Spring and has been using their technology for the choose your own model side of the app. However, with the virtual fitting room, they've taken this technology even further.
Walmart best explains it in their announcement:
Our technology accomplishes this key differentiator with algorithms and intricate machine learning models – techniques originally utilized in developing highly accurate topographic maps – to show how an item of clothing will look on someone. Other experiences typically lay a photo of an item on top of another image, making it appear computer-generated. With Be Your Own Model, a customer sees an ultra-realistic simulation with shadows, fabric draping and where clothing falls on their figure in seconds. For example, a single shirt can come in six different colors, seven different sizes and two sleeve lengths. Our technology captures all the variations and shows how they look uniquely on each individual.
Who can use the Walmart virtual clothes try on feature?
Right now, this is rolling out to ios (Apple) app users only. Shortly after this feature rolls out, those who use ios computers (Mac) will be able to use this virtual try on function with their desktops AND watches. Walmart also plans to quickly develop this function for android users as well.
Is this virtual clothes try on feature available on all items?
Right now, this Walmart virtual try on is available on over 270,000 items. Some brands that have already integrated this service are Free Assembly, Scoop, Sofia Jeans and Sofia Active by Sofia Vergara, Love & Sports, ELOQUII Elements, Time & Tru, Athletic Works, Terra & Sky, No Boundaries, Avia and The Pioneer Woman. Certain items from even national brands like Champion, Levi’s and Hanes, and EVEN some items from Walmart marketplace are planned to be included.
As you look through your app for clothes at Walmart and see items, you will see a “Try It On” button to know if this feature is available for the item you are viewing.
What do you think about all this? Will Walmart virtual try on make you more likely to buy from there and would you use this service?Â
Donna says
I would not use it. I still buy clothes from there, but the same sort of technology for trying on makeup colors does not work for me.
