The fabulous folks over at Bisquick and My Blog Spark have offered another great giveaway!  This week’s giveaway is a Bisquick Gluten Free Prize Pack, including a box of Gluten Free Bisquik Baking Mix, super cute pancake griddle, spatula, and a fun little pancake-squirter-thingie (got that?  They call it a “pancake pen”. . . it makes making pancake shapes easy – and my kids loved it!)

My mother-in-law has a wheat allergy, and it’s hard to bake while on a gluten free diet . . . I can’t imagine life without flour!  So any time I see a new product that makes her life a little easier, I’m thrilled to share it with others.  We tried the pancakes out last night at our house, and while they didn’t taste like “real-flour-pancakes”, they weren’t bad, and my seven-year-old gobbled four of them down in five minutes flat.   If you or someone in your family has a gluten allergy, visit www.bisquick.com/glutenfree for more recipes and ideas from Bisquick and you can also download a $1/1 Bisquick Gluten Free Baking Mix coupon, to try it out for yourself!

To enter to win this giveaway . . .

1) Leave a comment sharing your favorite food that doesn’t include flour.  (This is a hard one, but I’d love to have a few new ideas to share with my mother-in-law over Thanksgiving, so far all I’ve got is Brown Sugar Ham and marshmallows!)

2) Like Passionate Penny Pincher on Facebook and leave a comment here to let me know (if you already like Passionate Penny Pincher just leave a comment letting me know!)

3) Encourage your friends to join Passionate Penny Pincher on Facebook and leave a comment here too!

4)Sign up for my Feedburner feed (see sidebar at right) and your name will be entered for another chance to win (just leave a comment here to let me know).

5)Post a note on your Facebook or Twitter page about this giveaway and you’ll get entered for another chance to win (leave a comment to let me know you posted about it).

6)Blog about this giveaway and you’ll get entered for another chance to win (leave a comment with a link to the post).

You’ll also have extra chances to win when you leave a comment after completing this week’s five minute challenges. The giveaway will end Friday, 10/22/10 at 3:oo PM, so hurry and enter to win!

It’s great that food companies are beginning to produce tasty gluten free products! One of my favorite gluten free comfort foods is a potato chicken hash — just fry up some diced onion and diced cooked potato, add in some diced cooked chicken, then serve with a topping of your choice like ketchup or sour cream!

Soups! If you want a creamy soup that is thicker, instead of thickening with flour use a stick blender to puree some of the soup right in the pot or cook down some fat-free evaporated (not condensed!) milk and add it.
My niece used to eat alot of gluten free stuff from Pamela’s – not sure why as she does not have gluten intolerance.
She also used rice noodles instead of pasta (find at Trader Joes, health store or asian market)

We made a cheesecake and omitted the 2 tbs of flour it called for and came out great~also there is a choclate cake we made for a friend that had gluten intolerance with cocoa, sugar, and eggs. It was delish!!

We’ve had Thanksgiving at our house three out of the last four years: my MIL is diabetic and my father can’t have salt. Haven’t tried cooking without gluten, but cooking without salt and sugar is a challenge!

We make dressing instead of stuffing, so would that be gluten free? No flour, just cornmeal.

Chili! You can easily make without the flour. I also have a mexican casserole recipe (seasoned ground beef, canned tomatoes, kidney beans, corn, plus crumbled tortilla chips and cheese–it’s that easy) that’s gone over well with the non-gluten friends. Just watch those taco seasoning mixes, some have soy, which is wheat-based.

    I didn’t know they had a Gluten-Free product…yippee for Bisquick.
i love a fruit salad made with whipped cream, and marshmallows …. it is creamy and delicious

Our thanksgiving favorite is green been casserole. Not familiar with gluten free diets but my MIL can’t have salt. I think that is just as hard to cook without during the holidays. Never realized it is in everything.

My favorite is sweet potato casserole, homemade of course, with gluten free crushed corn flakes on top. Please pick me! This would be SO awesome if I could win this. The gf bisquick is awesome!!!!

I am gluten AND corn intolerant. Everything i make is without flour (or with special flour!)

    Tilapia:

Roast whole cloves of garlic in olive oil. Sautee the fish in garlic powder and pepper, onions and halved grape tomatoes. Mush up the roasted garlic and top the tapia, onions and tomatoes. yum!

Hooray for Bisquick! I didn’t know they had a Gluten-Free product! We just found out a month ago that my teenage son has
Celiacs disease…that means no more pizza, pancakes, and bread, which has been devastating to him. So, he has had to go to a gluten-free diet. This new product should make his (AND MY) life easier.
P.S. Last week I had to pay $6 fpr 4 gluten-free hot dog buns at Garden Cove…AND THEN HE DIDN’T EVEN LIKE THEM! His gluten-free diet is killing me and destroying my food budget!
