This creamy Buffalo Chicken Dip recipe is the perfect appetizer for a party or game day! (And YES – you can make it in the crockpot too!)
Buffalo Chicken Recipe (With Crockpot Directions Too)
I'm a sucker for a good dip, I mean we are truly a family of dippers over here! (Plus apparently we are suckers for anything buffalo too…) Buffalo lettuce wraps, buffalo sliders, buffalo wings, buffalo chicken dip……..I might have a wee bit of an obsession, ha!
This buffalo chicken dip recipe is an easy and tasty one to bring out for a Superbowl party or any gathering.
You truly can't go wrong with this easy 3-step recipe:
- Mix all the ingredients in a baking dish (shredded chicken, cream cheese, hot sauce, ranch dressing and shredded cheddar cheese)
- Pop it in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes
- Pull it out of the oven and serve with chips!
How to make buffalo chicken dip in crockpot:
If you don't want to use the oven – you don't have to!
Buffalo Chicken Dip is the PERFECT appetizer to make in your crockpot. Plus, it's one less thing you have to be actively worrying about while getting ready for guests.
To start, combine cooked chicken, cream cheese, hot sauce, ranch dressing and shredded cheddar cheese in the Crock Pot and stir together.
Cover with the lid and cook on LOW for 3-4 hours or on HIGH for 1-2 hours.
Give it a good stir every 30 minutes. When the cheese is fully melted and you no longer see chunks of cream cheese you'll know the buffalo chicken dip is ready.
Serve with Frito's scoops, tortilla chips, crackers or veggies.
What do you put in buffalo chicken dip?
The main ingredient right here is the buffalo sauce/hot sauce. We recommend Frank's hot sauce (it's the best!). The other ingredients are shredded, cooked chicken, cream cheese and ranch dressing. You know it's going to be good when you see cream cheese as an ingredient. 🙂
Can you use canned chicken? YEP!
You can definitely use canned chicken for this buffalo chicken dip – and many people do because it's a little softer and easier to scoop. But I just find that cooked or rotisserie chicken just has a better flavor. It's totally up to you!
What goes with buffalo chicken dip?
Traditionally buffalo chicken dip is served with cut up veggies such as celery, bell peppers, carrots and cucumbers. Any of those crunchy veggies will do. Frito's, tortilla chips and crackers are also yummy. Or you can sit there and eat it with a spoon right out of the dish!
Here are a few appetizers that will pair wonderfully in a snacky buffet with the buffalo chicken dip:

Why is my buffalo chicken dip greasy?
More than likely it's from overcooking. The oil from the cheese can separate if the dip is overcooked. So go ahead and set a timer so you can avoid that mess all together. That would be a sad, sad day if you had to toss all that yummy, buffalo chicken dip goodness.
Can I freeze leftover buffalo chicken dip?
I was wondering this and thought you might be wondering the same thing. The answer is yes, but keep in mind that cream cheese doesn't really freeze the best and will tend to get a funky texture. However, if it's either toss leftovers or freeze then go ahead and freeze it.
Can you make buffalo chicken dip without a crock pot?
Sure! This recipe works great in the oven too (this is how I typically make it).
Just mix all those ingredients together in a baking dish and bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes or until bubbly.
