Ingredients for Smashed Burgers
- ⅓ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp dill pickle chips finely diced
- 1½ tsps mustard
- 1 tbsp sugar-free ketchup
- ¼ tsp vinegar
- 1 tbsp paprika for sauce + ¼ tsp for beef
- 1 tbsp garlic powder for sauce + ¼ tsp for beef
- 1 tbsp onion powder for sauce + ¼ tsp for beef
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- 8 carb-counter street taco tortillas
- 8 american cheese slices
- 1 cup lettuce shredded
- ½ cup dill pickle chips sliced
- ¼ sweet onion finely diced
How To Make A Smash Burger
Start by combining ingredients for your sauce in a large bowl – combine mayonnaise, pickles, mustard, ketchup, vinegar, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Once combined, set aside. If you’d like to make the sauce a little lower in fat and higher in protein, you can sub greek yogurt for the mayonnaise.
In a medium bowl, combine your ground beef, salt, pepper, and any remaining paprika, garlic powder and onion powder. Mix well.
Form the meat into 8 even sized balls. Then, press one beef portion onto front of each tortilla until it covers the surface. Repeat with the rest of the beef and tortillas.
Pro Tip! Make sure to make the beef layer THIN so that the meat cooks through and that the meat covers the entire surface.
Warm a large skillet over medium heat and place tortillas beef side down onto the skillet. Cook for 3 – 4 minutes, smashing the tortillas flat with a spatula. Next, flip the burgers, cover with a piece of cheese, and cook 2 – 3 minutes.
Top the burgers with lettuce, sauce, pickle slices, and onions.
Enjoy!
