Southwest Airlines Bag Fee Increase
Heads up, Southwest travelers! Effective April 9, 2026, Southwest Airlines just increased their checked baggage fees. This affects any bookings made or changed on/after April 9. Here’s what you need to know:
🧳 New bag prices:
- 1st checked bag: $45 (was $35)
- 2nd checked bag: $55 (was $45)
⛽ Why the increase?
Rising fuel costs … and they’re not alone. Other airlines like Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and JetBlue have also raised fees.
💳 Who still gets free bags?
- Eligible Southwest credit card holders
- A-List & A-List Preferred members
- Active-duty military
- Certain higher fare classes
This is the second price increase since Southwest introduced bag fees back in May 2025.
Reminder: These prices are for standard checked bags – oversized or overweight luggage will cost extra.
