Quarantine Valentine Ideas

Cheree’ here!

After visiting my folks recently, it really got me to thinking how lonely and isolated the elderly are right now (and have been for nearly two years now). This pandemic has been especially hard on them since they really are some of the most vulnerable among us. With Valentine’s Day coming up and distancing again seeming necessary for some, it seemed like a wonderful time to show some love to our elderly relatives, friends and maybe even some you may not know.

Along with those socially distanced ideas – we’ve also come up with some stay-at home Valentine ideas to show your family and friends how much you care.

Here are 10 Social Distancing Friendly Valentine Ideas to help you bless everyone on your Valentine’s Day List.  From porch drop off friendly ideas for the elderly  – to cute ways to celebrate with little ones at home.

Socially Distanced Valentine Ideas (great for Elderly)

Paper Flowers Craft

When I first shared how to make this oh~so~cute Paper Flowers Craft at the beginning of quarantine, we had so many readers send us pictures of paper flowers they had made. This one is perfect for the kiddos to make for grandparents or loved ones. Make 1 flower or a whole bunch and I’m sure you’ll bring a big smile to someone’s face. 🙂

If you’re feeling really crafty you might want to make this adorable Dollar Tree XO Vase to go with your paper flowers (or fresh flowers)!

Fresh Flowers

If dropping off flowers at a nursing home – you’ll want to check first to see what their individual rules are before heading over.  But you can never go wrong with fresh flowers. When I’ve done this in the past, our local nursing home told me they have oodles of vases from previous deliveries and such so I typically don’t worry about taking flowers in a vase.

If you’ve been around Passionate Penny Pincher long you’ll know that I love, love, love some fresh flowers.

I spotted 2 dozen roses over at Costco for just $17.99 and it got my wheels to spinnin’. I love the idea of grabbing up a big bundle of roses, some babies breath, tissue paper and ribbon and making several little bouquets to drop off and love on some folks you don’t even know.

Or, drop off a fun flower bundle to an elderly neighbor, loved one or friend. Fresh flowers bring so much joy so you can’t go wrong here.

My parents live a few hours away so on a recent trip to visit them I brought my cute momma some flowers and set her to work. This was a wonderful opportunity to let her have a bit of occupational therapy (she loved floral design in the past) and to also enjoy the flowers for a bit after I was gone.

If your loved ones aren’t close by, consider sending them a fresh flower bouquet like these from Costco.

One of the most porch-droppable quarantine Valentine ideas you can make?  A care package to show someone you love them!

The Dollar Tree has sooooo many cute options. I made this one up recently for just $6 (and that includes the container)!   The Dollar Tree has everything so you can really customize it to your person. ❤️

A few care package suggestions for the elderly are:

  • fuzzy socks
  • candy
  • toiletries
  • first aid needs
  • puzzle books

Or if you’re making one up for a kiddo:

Create a “Box of Sunshine” full of yellow items to cheer them up!

Candy Gram Card

Greeting Cards

Don’t underestimate the gesture of an old fashioned greeting card. Snail mail seems to be a thing of the past but if you’re like me you love to get a handwritten note or card. Maybe have the kiddos draw a few pictures for their loved one and include a cute magnet so they can put it up on the refrigerator. 🙂

It’s not the most original of our quarantine Valentine ideas – but it’s ALWAYS appreciated.

valentine's day door drop

Homemade Valentine Treats for Door Drops

Door Drops are a fun way to treat friends and loved ones to a special treat – without actual contact.  This “Valentine White Trash Candy” is a great candidate!

We don’t particularly love the name of this homemade candy… but we do love the candy itself and I’m betting anyone you want to make some for would love it too!

Grab some goody bags and you should be able to get quite a few treat bags out of 1 batch. Be sure to check with your loved one on dietary restrictions (I know my mom can’t have peanuts so this wouldn’t work for her).

Stay at Home Quarantine Valentine Ideas

Valentine’s Day Scavenger Hunt for Kids

If your kids normally get a classroom party and all the cards, treats and fun that goes along with that – they might be disappointed to find things may have changed this year.   Treat them to a Valentine’s Day Scavenger Hunt full of fun clues and a treasure at the end!

Even better?  We already created the clues for you – you can print them over here!
