How to make garlic steak & potato packets
The beauty of this recipe is just how easy it is to make! There’s no extending marinating time, few ingredients, and pantry staple seasonings.
Preheat your grill to high heat or your oven to 425 degrees.
Trim the excess fat from your steak and cut into 2-2 1/2″ pieces. Then, rinse and quarter your yellow potatoes.
Note: If you like your steak medium doneness, you’ll want to pre-cook your potatoes a bit so they both come out just right. If you’re grilling, boil the potato pieces about 5 minutes prior to combining with other ingredients. If you’re baking, spread the potatoes on a small baking sheet and roast at 425 degrees for about 10 minutes.
In a large bowl, combine the steak, potatoes, olive oil, minced garlic, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Toss well so that everything is coated.
Next, grab your heavy duty aluminum foil. The “heavy duty” is really needed here to avoid little tears while you’re folding up your packets. I like to keep a roll on hand just for recipes like this, and use my regular foil for everything else!
You’ll need six 12-inch squares of foil. Lay these out on your counter and divide the steak & potato mixture evenly between each piece.
Then, fold up the foil around the food forming a tight packet.
You can place the packets directly on the grill or use a grill pan. For the oven, I recommend using a large baking sheet.
Grill over high for about ten minutes on each side until potatoes are done and meat has reached your desired doneness. Or, bake for 15-20 minutes until desired doneness.
