Saran Wrap Ball Game
The Saran Wrap Ball Game is a super fun party game for Christmas gatherings – play with your family and friends or to do with a youth group or other group. It can be as inexpensive or fancy as you want and the surprise and delight when gifts fall in your lap keeps the energy high! To make a Saran Wrap Ball game you need the following items:
What You Need
- Plastic Wrap (2 boxes is a good idea – or at least 220 ft)
- 2 Oven Mitts
- 2 Dice
- Lots of Candy & Trinkets! (check our idea list further down)
How to Play the Saran Wrap Ball Game:
- Wrap up lots of small gifts, layer by layer, into a giant saran wrap ball (Saving the best gift for the very middle)
- Players sit in a circle and take turns unwrapping the ball – anything that falls out during your turn is yours to keep
- The person sitting to the left of the un-wrapper tosses a pair of dice until they get doubles, which means it’s now their turn!
- Use Oven Mitts to slow down the unwrapping progress and prolong the game
Variation: You can add “Coal Cards” to the saran wrap ball, and if you get a “Coal Card” it could indicate that you have to do one of these things:
- Swap Loot with the person to your left
- End Your Turn Immediately
- Unwrap the Ball Behind Your Back
- Stop unwrapping until you can yell out 1 of Santa’s Reindeer
- Reverse Directions (This could get people MAD so beware!)
- Sing a Christmas Carol while you unwrap
- Make up your own challenge/consequence!
Gifts to Wrap Inside:
Ideally you want things to fall out for everyone – at least SOMETHING – to keep the excitement high. Think of a mix of really inexpensive things, nicer things, practical things and unexpected things. While wrapping the ball, you’ll want to keep changing the direction you’re wrapping so someone can’t unroll a TON of stuff at one go. So after you’ve wrapped the ball a few times, ear the wrap and start over wrapping in another direction.
Here’s what we put in ours. Lots of these you can get at the Dollar Tree or in bulk packs on Amazon!

Do you do anything special to get the saran wrap to cling together better, do it harder to unwrap
Jamie said she wrapped the ball with shorter sections of saran wrap, and each time she started a new one she did it in a different direction. That way it couldn’t be unrolled all at once and the beginning of each piece was hard to find. She also includes oven mitts in the game to make it harder to unwrap! I hope that helps. 🙂
Where did you get the big tic tac??
