Enjoy this post from last year … I STILL love this cabinet (and use it every single day)!
I hope you've had a wonderful Saturday! I woke up early this morning (entirely too early!) and decided to be a little crazy and tackle a major home office overhaul today.
I have an amazing space to work in that I'm so incredibly thankful for (see before and after updates over HERE). However, over the past few years Passionate Penny Pincher has grown and grown and grown, and I'd never really taken time to organize my office space to make it work more efficiently.
As we started the ecommerce side of PPP over the last two years (it's crazy to me that just two years ago I was just dreaming about shipping a few recipe cards out to you), all of our paper samples, colors, and covers have slowly taken over more and more of my office. But I simply hadn't made a home for everything we had.
So this morning, I hopped in, looked around, and decided it was time for a major re-do. I didn't spend a penny, simple used what I had, got rid of so much stuff, and decided that just because I loved something a few years ago when I bought it, it still really was okay to let it go.
(For example, I have loved this chaise in the corner of my office but lately I've felt more and more like the clutter in this space was overwhelming me. I'll sell it on a local online yard sale website, because I know it's time for someone else to enjoy this one!)
My biggest accomplishment today?Â
I took time to decide the right SPACE for my STUFF.
I've been listening to the book Organizing at the Speed of Life on Audible by my friend Dana White, and one point she made was that it was important to define how much physical container space you actually want to have for your “stuff”. So, I looked at this huge (um, awesome!) cabinet that I have in my office, decided that ALL my crafting goodies would go in there, and determined that I will never ever never get more crafts than can fit in this space.
Did you read my “Two ‘5 Things” Minimalist Kitchen Rules Post?” This is the same kind of rule I'm setting for my crafting supplies. If it doesn't fit in this cabinet, I'm now allowed to keep it. The cabinet is HUGE so it really should work!)
Prior to today, I'd had some crafts over my computer, some in that desk and some in a cabinet in our hall.
I also had some PPP products in the cabinet, some sample products in the cabinet, and some affiliate products in every nook and cranny of my office too. As a blogger companies sometimes send me things to test, and so very quickly they can overrun my space.
But by decluttering, getting rid of the just okay stuff to make way for the good, I think I'll actually be able to sit down to a space and enjoy crafting a bit more. (I've been so busy creating products the last few years on Passionate Penny Pincher that I've hardly had time to craft at all, and I miss those days a wee bit!)
Soooo…. here's a peek at my brand-spankin-new to me crafting cupboard . . .
that I actually already had. 🙂Â
QUICK SIDE NOTE: I found this AMAZING cabinet at Arhaus Loft a few years ago. Arhaus is a high end store that has the most beautiful furniture, but it tends to be super expensive (this cabinet is normally $4200 – YIKES!) Arhaus “LOFT” is their seconds store here in Columbus, Ohio, and a few years ago I noticed this piece for $800. I thought that price was crazy high, but at the time we were just getting into shipping physical products and I thought the space might come in handy. Turns out ~ I was right. I can't believe this has been sitting here all this time as the perfect crafting cabinet, and now I can use it well every day!Â
Reagan even helped out by creating an inspirational sign for me to cheer me on as I went today. 😉
So for now the chaise is heading out, hopefully I'll make a little moo-lah, and I reclaimed the space I already had without spending a penny. (In case you're curious, you can take a peek atour office renovation right over here.)
Do you have a place in your home that feels overwhelming today? Do you have a piece of furniture or even some old bins or a closet that you could re-purpose to make things a wee bit more functional in your home too? If you've got a few hours, decide to tackle a space in your home as soon as you can. See what you can do without spending a penny (maybe you'll find something you can sell and even make a little moolah as you work!)
I promise it'll feel amazing, and I'd sure love to hear what space you're working on today. I'm cheering for you! Â
We just found a similar office shelving system for wayyyyy less ~ if you're looking for something to organize your office, this one has amazing reviews!Â

Wish I lived closer I’d so love you buy the lounger. Your space looks incredible!!
Thank you Sandy! I really do like it! 🙂
Hi Laurie!! Your office looks amazing and I am inspired to get going on mine! While I love love the Arhaus cabinet, I would like to check out less expensive options. The link you posted for one took me to a generic Walmart shopping page. Any chance you can give the name/brand of the similar less expensive option you found? Thank YOU!
Whoops – sorry about that Alyssa! Here’s the link! 🙂 https://shopstyle.it/l/bxB0u It really is a great little cabinet!
I LOVE that chaise!!! Admired it for a while now. Where did you find it? I’d buy it from you, but we are in Texas. Where did you purchase it?
I got it at Home Goods and have seen them there a few times! Definitely check your local store out and watch for one! 🙂
