Store Bought Pumpkin Pie Hack

For this pumpkin pie hack, grab a pie from your favorite store. This trick works best with a large pie from stores like Costco or Sam’s, but any pie will do. You CAN make your own pie at home for this, but I don’t want you to do all that work baking just to take it apart!

Want to make your own pumpkin pie from scratch to serve traditionally? We’ve got you covered!

Here’s how to cook pumpkin for a pie AND our favorite homemade crust recipe!

We’re going to turn this large pie into small, single-serve pies!

Next, you’ll need a biscuit cutter tool with a handle. Take your cutter and insert it into your pie all the way through to the crust. Pull up and out pops a perfect little round piece. Place this onto a serving tray or plate and repeat.

Tip: try to make your circle cuts as close together as possible. You will end up with some pie remnants and that’s okay – we’re going to use those below!

Once you’ve cut your desired number of mini-pies, top with some Reddi-wip and a little sprinkle of cinnamon. These little pies are so adorable and make a big impact on a party serving table with minimal effort from you!

Pumpkin Pie Cookie Cutter Hack

Although the handle of the biscuit cutter tool makes this job a breeze, you can also level up this hack by using shaped cookie cutters for your mini pies. I’m thinking a pumpkin shape would just be the CUTEST!

Pumpkin Pie Cake Pops

When you’ve finished cutting up your pie, you’ll likely have a holey leftover pie. You can toss this OR repurpose so you’re not wasting any of that delicious dessert! The remainder of your pie is perfect for making Pumpkin Pie Cake Pops.

Transfer your pie remnants to a large mixing bowl and mix together until you have a doughy consistency with no crust chunks.

Then, take small amounts of the dough and roll into a ball about 1″-1.5″ in diameter and place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining dough.

Freeze for 30-60 minutes to allow the dough to harden. Then, remove from freezer and insert a cake pop stick into each ball.

Next, heat some melting chocolate like this according to package directions. Dip and roll each cake pop in the melted chocolate until the surface is covered, letting excess drip back into the bowl.

Optional, add some fun sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet. I grabbed this fall-themed package at Walmart and it was just perfect!

They’re not the most perfect cake pops out there, but they’re yummy and a fun extra treat for your gathering!

I evidently ‍♀️ used about half the sugar required for my last batch of pies and am looking for a way to salvage the ingredients. This seems like a good option. What would you suggest is the best way to bring the sweetness factor up to par before creating the pops? Powdered sugar, so no grit? Brown sugar? Corn syrup?

    • Bethany - PPP Team says

Hmm, powdered sugar might work. The chocolate on the outside might also be enough to sweetened them up, maybe try one with just the chocolate first? I hope that helps save all your hard work! 🙂

We haven’t tried freezing them, but I think it would work just fine! Let us know if you give it a try. 🙂

  2. Marsha says

Do you need to cut these out right before serving or can you cut them out a day ahead of time? Does it dry out the pie doing it that way how would you store them just in the refrigerator? Thank you for your help

    • Bridgett - PPP Team says

Hmm that’s tough. I probably wouldn’t. Team Member Laura said it really only took like 3 minutes to pull them out of the pie and top with whipped cream so having to do it day-of shouldn’t be too terrible

  3. Jan says

If you do not have a cookie cutter a cookie press is fantastic! Just freeze the pie for 45 minutes first. Perfect cut every time
