Make Ahead Pie Crust – Completely Homemade!
Homemade Pie Crust is so easy to make and I'd be willing to be that you already have all the items in your pantry ;)!
This pie crust is easily made ahead of time and is completely homemade. Many times if you get the hankering to make a pie, you won't have a pre-made pie crust from the store at your home – it just isn't something I think to buy usually. This recipe is so easy to make too – plus it tastes better than a store bought crust — win/win!
Bonus points? This homemade version is a cheaper and healthier option – plus you can use all organic items if you prefer! This recipe makes 2 pie shells. You can store it in the fridge for up to 3 days – or freeze it for the next time.
Ingredients:
- all purpose flour
- cold butter
- salt
- ice cold water
- sugar
How to Make Pie Crust Ahead of Time:
Combine flour, sugar and salt and whisk together. Cut cold butter into cubes. Use pastry cutter or forks and cut them into the flour mixture until the butter becomes little pieces in the flour mixture. This is where you'll get that flaky pie crust with a buttery flavor!
Then take 1/2 – 3/4 cup of cold water and put in the mixture slowly. (I put some ice to make it cold – if you are making in the winter you can most likely skip the ice). If you have a Kitchenaid food processor take the hook attachment and turn it on low until it forms into a ball. If you do not have a Kitchenaid just mix with a wooden spoon until it forms a ball.
Turn the dough out on a floured work surface and roll the dough using your rolling pin to make the 2 balls into 2 discs.
Cover tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for an hour. If you are going to freeze, put them in a freezer bag wrapped in the plastic wrap and freeze immediately.
Remove from fridge after an hour and use for any pie recipe. If you're freezing your pie crusts, be sure to take the pie crust out of the freezer the night before and place in the fridge so that it is ready to use in your recipe.

Have you ever had a dream pie? It’s on the back of a box of dreamwhip. You can make use any pudding & they are sooo good! (If you are making banana, use the vanilla pudding & add real bananas). Just add whipped cream when served. My mother made them on holidays.
