This Halloween snack board for kids is the perfect festive fun for Halloween parties and spooky movie nights. We've got so many ideas to try!
Kids Halloween Snack Board
If you're hosting a Halloween party for kids or a scary movie night for your own family, this Halloween snack board is the perfect way to include a variety of foods with a spooky + sweet twist.
I love making snack boards because they LOOK so fancy and like so much work, but it's really just throwing a bunch of different snacks together! For this Halloween snack board, I combined a few easy snack DIYs with prepared foods and was able to prepare this whole set up in less than an hour.
Here are some fun Halloween snack DIYS and my tips & tricks for creating the best Halloween charcuterie around!
DIY Halloween snacks for kids
A few of these snacks require just a little bit of creativity before “plating” them. Here are some ideas to make snacks extra special. Plus, a lot of these are easy to make in bulk so you can take them to your kids school party or even hand out as a candy-alternative to trick or treaters.
Juice Box Mummies
Turn juice boxes or applesauce pouches into adorable mummies! Grab some cloth medical tape from the first aid aisle. Wrap around the juice a few times, going up and down at angles until it looks like a mummy. Then, attach some googly eyes and you're all set!
Note: you can either remove the straws ahead of time or have kids unwrap the mummies to get to the straws.
Lollipop ghosts
For these cute ghosts you'll need lollipops, white coffee filters, small rubber bands (I used tiny hair elastics), ribbon, and marker.
Wrap the lollipop in the coffee filter, attach at the “neck” with the rubber band, tie a ribbon, and make your ghosty face! So easy and fun.
Chocolate Hummus Pumpkin Patch
This dip is similar to a pudding dirt cup but replaces the pudding with chocolate hummus. If you've never had chocolate hummus before – you have to give it a try! I love the in-house Target brand but there are tons of options out there.
Layer the hummus in the bottom of a dish. Add crushed Oreo cookies on top. For the grass I used sweetened coconut flakes that I dyed green with food coloring. I just LOVE how cute it looks with some pumpkins sitting on top!
This dip is perfect for apple slices, other fruit, or pretzels and graham crackers.
Guacamole with Sour Cream Spiderweb
If you want another healthier dip option on your snack tray, grab or make some guacamole and give it a creepy touch! I spooned a little sour cream into a Ziploc bag and cut a tiny hole in the corner. I then piped the sour cream out (like decorating a cookie) in the shape of a spiderweb. If you have a little plastic spider on hand you can add it! Another option is to slice up a black olive in the body and legs of a spider and stick him on top of the web.
What to include on your snack board
My goal for this snack board was a variety – some nutritious foods and some not-so-nutritious foods. I always want to avoid a sugar crash when I can for my kiddos! This is what I included and some other ideas that work. Make this easy on yourself and shop your fridge and pantry FIRST and use what you've got before hitting the grocery store.
Here's everything I included on this board:
- Guacamole with dippers (I found these black and orange tortilla chips at Target, and mini peppers)
- Clementine oranges (I used a Sharpie to turn them into jack-o-lanterns)
- Lollipop ghosts
- Turkey sausage bites
- Cheese Itz
- Monster cookies (these are seriously so yummy!)
- Hummus dip with apple slices for dipping
- Celery with peanut butter and googly eye sprinkles
- Cheese sticks (I also used a Sharpie to make add ghost faces)
- Candy corn and candy pumpkins
If you're trying to put together a board, I try to include a coupe things from a few categories to make it easy to plan and throw together. Here's what I try to stick to:
- Fruits that are easy to eat (apple slices, grapes, strawberries)
- Veggies (carrot sticks, celery, mini peppers, cucumber slices)
- Crunchy (crackers, Goldfish, graham crackers)
- Protein (sausage bites, hard boiled eggs, jerky)
- Dips (guacamole, hummus, peanut butter, caramel)
- Baked goods (cookies, brownies)
- Candy (fill in with your favorite candies)
Using apple slices on your board? Make sure to use our fool-proof no browning method!
Tips for making a Halloween snack board
I've made a LOT of snack boards over the years (for kids and adults!) so I've learned a few things along the way!
Tip #1 – Use whatever board you have on hand. Don't feel the need to run out and grab something new for every event!
If you don't have a board big enough for the amount of food you're serving, just set up directly on your table. You can use thick paper like butcher paper or brown Kraft paper and set up your snack board as a grazing table instead.
Tip #2 – Place anything in a dish first and fill in around it.
Tip #3 – Save the messy stuff and tiny stuff until the end! Even knowing this, I put a bunch of candy corn down way too early and ended up having to scrape it all up because I moved it around. Save fillers and other messy or wet items until the end.
