College Gift Baskets for Dorm Rooms

If you’re getting ready to send you college kid off to their dorm this fall or are thinking about care packages you can put together once they’re there –  you’re probably looking for some useful college gift basket ideas.  We’ve got you covered!

Here are three college gift basket ideas we pulled together using ONLY items from our local Dollar Tree!  You can keep them inexpensive like we did- or you can fancy them up a bit with nicer brands.

Whether you stay under $15 (like these) or pull out all the stops for a basket full of your favorites – this is an extremely practical gift for a college student to take with them to their new dorm room.  Be sure to grab a copy of our Ultimate College Packing list too so you don’t forget any items!

College Dorm Cleaning Basket

college laundry basket gift idea

This College Gift Basket is a great idea for introducing your grad to living on their own (with no maid mom to clean up after them). Pack a laundry basket full of everything they’ll need to keep things fresh, clean and tidy in their new space!  Everything on this list came to just $15…

  • Laundry Detergent
  • Dryer Sheets
  • Dish Soap
  • Paper Towels
  • Scrubby Sponge
  • Dish Rags
  • Scrub Brush
  • Cleaning Spray
  • Toilet Brush
  • Toilet Cleaner
  • Lysol Wipes
  • Mini First Aid Kit
  • Candle

My friend Kristen pulled this one together for her daughter and said:

I prepared the laundry basket as a gift for my college student as she moves into her dorm.  I included all of the essentials to help keep her dorm nice and clean and comfortable.  Most of the items can be purchased at the Dollar store or Walmart and are nice and small so they don’t take up too much space.

This next College Gift Basket idea is a shower tote filled with all their personal care needs – and all for around $15!

  • Shower Tote
  • Shower Gel
  • Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Lotion
  • Toothbrush & Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush Holder
  • Loofah
  • Bath Towel
  • Bath Rags
  • Mini First Aid Kit
  • Candle

Kristen added this one as well:

I also made a bathroom caddy to take back and forth to the bathroom.  I included her favorite shampoo/conditioner, body wash and all the necessary items she will need in the morning or evening when getting ready.  The basket with longer handles makes it easy to throw it all in and go.  I spent about $15 on this one.

College First Aid Gift Basket

This last Dollar Tree College gift basket is a portable medicine cabinet. It’s all about gearing them up with anything they’ll need for scrapes, bruises, throat tickles, headaches and everything in between.  When you can’t be there to take care of them it’s a little comfort knowing you packed their first aid kit! (See how to create the ULTIMATE College First Aid Kit here)

We picked up these medicine cabinet staples (along with a couple other practical items) for about $15 at the local Dollar Tree – but you can get the name brands instead.

  • Cosmetics Pouch or Latching Box to keep items in
  • Band-Aids
  • Neosporin
  • Ibuprofen
  • Allergy Medicine
  • Mucus Relief
  • Nasal Decongestant
  • Antacid
  • Anti-Itch Cream
  • Pain Reliever (Like Tylenol)
  • Thermometer
  • Batteries
  • Sewing Kit

We’d love to hear any creative college gift baskets you’ve pulled together – and would love to even include some of them here to help other PPP readers send their college kids off!
