10 Secrets You Need to Know Before Shopping Old Navy

TIP: OLD NAVY is having a HUGE sale today, including 30% off clearance when you use the code JACKPOT, and 40% off your entire order with the code COOL40. WOOT!

Love shopping Old NavyMake sure you know all of the ins and outs before you shop! Here are my favorite 10 secrets you need to know before shopping Old Navy . . .

1. Sign up for Old Navy Emails to get 20% off your next purchase.
2. Shop Wednesday mornings.

Old Navy typically marks down items on Tuesday evenings, so shop Wednesday morning for the best selection of clearance items. (This may vary by area but is what I've found at my local stores.)

3. Watch the sale tags for clues on pricing.

Prices ending in .47, .49, .97 or .99 are typically at their very lowest price from Old Navy and won't be reduced further. (Thanks, Rather Be Shopping!)

4. Shop all the Old Navy brands at one time to get free shipping.

You can shop Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta online at one time to get free shipping when you spend $50 or more.

5. Take advantage of gift card specials.

In my area, both Kroger and Giant Eagle offer gas savings when you purchase retail gift cards at those stores. Pick up your gift cards there before you shop, and save on your gas for the month!

To save even more, watch for special Kroger e-coupons (also available at most Kroger affiliate stores). I've frequently found $10 off $50 Gap & Old Navy gift card e coupons on the Kroger site, and it's a great way to save even more when you shop. The nice thing about these is you can snag them for $10 off the regular price, earn fuel points, AND then use coupons when shopping at Old Navy. Great way to triple dip on savings (love that!)

6. Be sure to watch for Old Navy's big special sales.

A few times a year, Old Navy has huge sales like $1 flip flops or $2 tank tops in the summer, or $1 hats and $2 scarves in the winter. Watch for those sales to come up, and be sure to get their early to get the best selection!

7. Watch for in-store one day specials as well.

Every once in awhile Old Navy will announce a one-day sale on their Facebook page offering special deals. These are the best way to get deals at Old Navy, even though you typically can't combine them with an additional coupon. Go HERE to follow Old Navy on Facebook and keep up with their extra deals.

8. Take advantage of Old Navy Super Cash.

Fairly regularly Old Navy offers “Super Cash” when you shop (in fact, through 10/19/15 you can earn Super Cash when you shop.) Super Cash is actually earned on your entire purchase (pre-tax and coupon), so you can earn a bundle during these offers! If you use Super Cash in store you can also split it into more than one transaction. Learn more about Old Navy Super Cash over HERE.

9. Look for Old Navy coupon codes before you shop.

Whether shopping online or in-store, always (ALWAYS) look for coupon codes before shopping! You can look for them directly on the Old Navy site, or visit my favorite sites to search for coupon codes – Coupon Sherpa and Retail Me Not.

10. Never (ever) pay full price for anything at Old Navy.

Just like your local grocery store, Old Navy puts everything on sale in their store within a 4-6 week time period, so be patient and wait for a sale. If you can wait 'til they clearance things at the end of the season you'll save even more, so stock up for the next year if you're able to!

Also, don't forget that Old Navy will give you 14 days to get a price adjustment if the price on something you purchased goes down within 14 days after you purchase it. To get that pricing, just return to your Old Navy with your receipt and they'll credit you the difference. (Thanks Elizabeth for the reminder!)

  1. Thanks, definitely saving this for later.

  2. I currently work at OldNavy and I can’t help but comment to say GET AN OLD NAVY CARD. So many of the customers I ask say no immediately before I can tell them the great benefits and it drives me crazy! Even if you don’t think you’ll be approved just try. Seriously the card Pat’s you back for shopping with our brands. Every $100 you spend (really easy to rack up if your approved for the Visa) you get $5 back in rewards, free shipping online,10% off for your first 60 days at any of the brands, cardholder exclusive sales/ coupons/deals, and that’s just a few of the benefits!

    • Thanks for sharing Meredith! I think as long as you faithfully pay it off every month and absolutely positively never leave a balance, that’s a great way to save. Great tip if that is something you can realistically do (it’s just so easy for those extra charges to creep in if you don’t pay it off, so we tend to stay clear of store credit cards but I know it is something that’s worth it for some folks!)

    • Meredith,
It pains me every time a store asks me if I want to open a credit card with their store. I’ve been saying no for so long now, that I have my response down pat, even before they ask. Please don’t come to your own conclusions about why people don’t take advantage of this opportunity. For me it is common sense to have less credit so my credit rating number didn’t take a plunge. My number is very high, and the more debt I take on per month. It lowers my rating. This number means something to people. You have no idea what other people’s reasons are, so judging a stranger is pointless. Think positive of people’s reasons for decline your card.

  3. Please don’t use Retail Me Not. It is the bane of retail workers existence because it doesn’t specify if a coupon code is online or in store.

  4. Open an Old Navy card…Meredith is right! As long as you plan to pay it off each month, you’ll save even more money on your purchases! Obviously, as with any credit card, it only works if you use it responsibly. But it should definitely be on this list. (I don’t work for Old Navy or any of their affiliates. I’m just a pretty regular customer.)
