Testing Viral Cleaning Gadgets – Hits & Misses!
Laura, here! If you're like me, you probably spend a little too long watching videos of other people cleaning their houses 😂 Isn't there just something about that satisfying before & after while someone else does the work?? Because of these videos, I am constantly seeing the new IT cleaning product or hearing about this or that viral cleaning gadget.
So, I'm putting a few of them to the test. Are they REALLY worth it or am I just being tricked into spending my hard-earned moolah?
Here are 5 viral cleaning gadgets and my honest opinion on them!Â
First up is this viral Baseboard Cleaning Tool. I am always so skeptical when it comes to any sort of baseboard tool because of the grooves of my baseboards.
This gadget comes with 4 reusable cleaning pads and extends to almost 60″ when all the pole pieces are used. The cleaning head has a flexible lip for getting the very top of the baseboard, and a super strong Velcro to keep the pads from falling off.
I tried this out with both cleaning pads along the dustiest parts of my baseboards (the staircase) to see how they would work.
My verdict: I'm actually surprised to say this one is a hit! I love that I don't have to bend over to dust, and the design gets the whole baseboard clean at once. You can just walk around your home easily dusting.
Next, I tested the famous (infamous?) Little Green Machine from Bissell. I have read really nothing but rave reviews on this small, portable upholstery cleaner so I had high hopes!
I have this chair that has taken a serious beating over the years. Most notably, my dog taking a tube of BLACK icing off the counter and eating it on this chair of all places. (Don't even get me started…) It's also been a bit of a canvas for my kids when they go rogue with markers.
I have tried many different stain removers on this with no luck, so the Little Green Machine was my last hope.
Unfortunately, it didn't even touch the stains. It DID clean years of general dirt from the chair so if you're looking for an overall cleaner without stain fighting, it might still be a good option.
My verdict: A bummer, but a “no” for stains. Seems like a great option for general upholstery cleaning!
Laurie had luck reviving a very similar chair with a different handheld cleaner. Her review is in here!
I'm truly embarrassed to share this next project. IÂ despise cleaning ceiling fans, so they can get a little…neglected.
Ew.
I saw a few recommendations for the Blade Maid Ceiling Fan cleaner so I decided to give it a shot. This kit comes with a 6′ extendable pole, a cleaning head with reusable cleaning pads MADE for ceiling fan blades, and even a bonus duster.
Y'all. I am in LOVE.Â
Full disclosure – I think I might have broken this during set up and thankfully the company was willing to replace it! There is a locking mechanism that keeps the cleaning head tightly together so it can get nice and close along the fan blade. I was so excited to try it, I popped it right open when you're supposed to slide it open.
Whoops! Learn from my mistake 😉
But, even being slightly broken this thing still worked wonders on my disgusting ceiling fan! Plus, the duster attachment is great for the rest of the fan and lightbulbs.
My verdict:Â Worth every PENNY. Since it goes up to 6′ I can now clean even my vaulted ceiling fans without having to get up on a step ladder. WIN!
Next, I tried this Wall Cleaner Mop that I have seen so much. It comes with two different types of scrubbers. I paired it with Zep Foaming Wall Cleaner and tested it on the yuckiest wall along the staircase. (Why do kids insist on running their grubby little hands all over this?!)
Unfortunately, the scrubber I used did nothing and the joints where the mop extends and the head attaches kept coming undone so I couldn't even test the other scrubber.
My verdict:Â Not sure what those influencers are talking about because this one was a fail.
Last but certainly not least are these viral SneakERASERS Sneaker Cleaners. These disposable sponges are supposed to restore dingy, dirty shoes back to their bright white glory.Â
Essentially, these are like a Magic Eraser for shoes. I was skeptical about these since my main beef with Magic Eraser is how quickly the sponge dissolves and disintegrates while you're cleaning.
I grabbed my favorite pair of white sneakers and got to work. With just a little bit of scrubbing, my sneakers were as good as new!
Before on the bottom, after on top!
I'm so excited to have these on hand for all of our shoes. Plus, I was SO shocked at how well the sponge held up. You can see in the picture that it still has a lot of life left after this pair so I'm confident this 10-pack of sponges will last us quite a while.
My verdict:Â Grab these awesome sponges!
There you have it! Now you know what's worth it to snag on Amazon and what to skip.
