Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes
Here's a super easy Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes recipe that definitely helped make dinnertime run smoothly at our house!
I served them with baked potatoes and corn on the cob. . . super easy, family loved, and I only spent 15 minutes in the kitchen. (Love that!)
How do you make Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes?
It is SO incredibly simple to make this meal.
Grab your ingredients:
- Ground Beef
- Onion
- Red Pepper
- Brown Sugar
- Chili Sauce
- Salt
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Buns
Once you've got your ingredients ready, you're going to sauté your beef, onion, and peppers (we used red bell peppers) together in a skillet on medium high heat. Cover and cook until meat is cooked through and no longer pink.
After that, add your meat mixture and all other slow cooker sloppy joe recipe ingredients into the slow cooker and stir to combine. Cook for 3 – 4 hours on low and then serve over buns.
Some areas of the country like to have their hamburger bun open faced with coleslaw on it too (even French Fries on top in some places!) – you could give that a try or have it as a side too!
These homemade sloppy joes are bound to become a family favorite!

Can I use Ground Turkey or Chicken in these Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes?
You can absolutely use something other than ground beef in this recipe. Ground turkey or chicken would likely work best and may only slightly change the flavor. You may even be able to use a plant-based ground “beef” substitute!

Una Hines says
Hello. Do you drain the beef before you add it to the pot? It didn’t specify. Thanks
Laurie says
Hi Una! If you’re using a lean ground beef, you probably don’t need to drain it, but if you’re using a higher fat ground beef, feel free to drain it! 🙂 Hope that helps!

I would like to know what is Chili Sauce? and what brand, please?
Laurie says
It’s a tomato based sauce that should be available at most grocery stores Sherri! (Heinz and Great Value have a version)!
Eva says
What kind of red pepper? Red bell peppers? Thanks! 🙂
Laurie says
Yes! Red bell peppers work perfectly! 🙂
E says
I made this using 2 cups cooked lentils and 2 cups cooked bulgar wheat for the “meat”. It was a hit with both of my picky eaters. Thanks for the menu inspiration!
Laurie says
So glad to hear that E ~ thanks for the tip, and super happy it was a hit! 🙂
