If you're looking for a little motivation to exercise and want to make a little extra money while doing it, check out these easy apps that will pay you to workout!
How to Make Money Exercising
Did you know that you can make money simply by walking, running, swimming, biking, and even working out at the gym?? It's true! There are several easy and FREE apps that will actually pay you money by working out, which makes it a little bit more fun. So, put on your tennis shoes, grab your workout clothes, and get ready to move your body…not only is it good for your overall health, but it can be so rewarding, too! 😀
1. WeWard (FREE)
WeWard is a free mobile application that incentivizes you to walk by rewarding you with virtual currency, which can be redeemed for various rewards. You'll accumulate “Ward” points as you walk, run, or engage in other physical activities. These points can then be exchanged for cash, gifts, or charity donations. WeWard also integrates features such as challenges, leaderboards, and social sharing to enhance user engagement and motivation.
The app is designed to promote both individual wellness and environmental sustainability by encouraging walking as a means of transportation instead of using cars or other motorized vehicles for short distances. WeWard's concept aligns with the growing trend of using technology to foster healthier habits and reduce carbon emissions.
Here are a few rewards you can redeem:
- $5 Walmart eGift Card = 1,000 Wards
- $10 Target eGift Card = 2,000 Wards
- $15 Amazon eGift Card = 3,000 Wards
- $15 PayPal transfer = 3,050 Wards
- + MORE!
WeWard currently has 20 million users…and counting! You'll also get 30 Wards just for signing up! 🙂

2. Evidation (FREE)
This app is one of my favorites – I've been using it for years! Evidation awards points for tracking things like walking, logging food, and weighing yourself. You'll also earn points for responding to cards or reading health-related articles, participating in research, and more.
You can connect to 18 health & fitness apps, including Apple Health, Garmin, Google Fit, MapMyFitness, MyFitnessPal, RunKeeper, Samsung Health, Strava, and more!
You'll earn $10 for every 10,000 points you generate, and you can redeem your reward via PayPal, gift card, prepaid VISA card, or bank deposit. Or, donate your reward to charity if you prefer!
As you can see from my photos above, I've earned a nice chunk over the years just by exercising and tracking my foods – and the best part is I haven't had to do much! It definitely adds up! 🙂

3. Cashwalk (FREE)
CashWalk is a free step counter app that allows you to earn money just for walking or running. You can earn up to 100 coins per day and redeem various gift cards once you earn at least 1,500 coins (choose from Amazon, Walmart, Starbucks, Sephora, eBay, Dunkin', Uber, and more!).
Plus, there's a handy widget on your lockscreen that shows your daily step count and the coins that you can earn – this makes it easy to keep track of your steps without having to open the app.
Here's the basics of how it works:
- Walk 100 steps = Earn 1 coin
- Walk 10,000 steps = Earn 100 coins (max limit per day)
- Earn 1,500+ coins = Earn a Gift Card!
Here are a few ways that you can earn with CashWalk:
- Walk: Earn up to 100 coins a day from walking (doesn't include surveys or bonus earnings)! They reward you up to 20 coins every 2000 steps!
- Invite friends: Invite your friends to CashWalk and get 100 coins per friend.
- Lottery: Try the lottery and win from 1 coin to 10,000 coins.
- Survey: Each time you complete a survey, you will be rewarded with 50 coins.
With CashWalk, you won't be able to earn actual cash and it may take a while to earn those coins, but who doesn't love free gift cards for something you're probably doing every day anyway?

4. Waybetter (aka StepBet/DietBet)
We've talked about StepBet before here – it's a PPP fave! StepBet is a fitness game that motivates you to be more active – the cash prize (people tend to be more motivated when there's skin in the game!), accountability, and community support help build a more active lifestyle.
Basically players “bet” on themselves to meet their step goals each week – and win money if they do. And you play in a group setting, which helps with accountability & encouragement.
Most games cost $40 to join BUT if you reach your goals each week, you'll get your entry fee back (most games are $40 – but are as little as $10!) AND split the pot with other winners. StepBet retains 15% of the gross pot to pay referees, transaction fees, paid game hosts, & admin support. If you miss your weekly goals, you'll be disqualified from the game and lose your entry fee.

I’ve used Evidation for years now and love that it connects to my FitBit. I’m not super clear on if any others use that connection as well. I don’t always carry my phone around so I miss out on tons of steps if it’s only calculated by the phone. Is there another option that I can connect to my FitBit?

A few of the apps listed in this post should work with your FitBit! 🙂

It looks like StepBet’s membership fee is only offered annually vs. also monthly. Is there a way around the annual fee, especially for newbies? I have a couple friends that would like to know, too.
Thanks for the list. Keep up the amazing work and walking.

I use Evidation and have for a long time but I was unaware of the other 3. Thanks for the knowledge on them.

Happy to help! 🙂

Does WayBetter require an annual membership now? I did the last PPP game and loved using and then suddenly I couldn’t join a game unless I was paying the yearlong membership fees. Maybe I missed something? I loved it when I used it and loved the PPP games.

Hi Tracy, it looks like the first week is free, but then there is a membership fee after that! Most games cost $40 to join BUT if you reach your goals each week, you’ll get your entry fee back (most games are $40 – but are as little as $10) AND split the pot with other winners. StepBet retains 15% of the gross pot to pay referees, transaction fees, paid game hosts, & admin support. If you miss your weekly goals, you’ll be disqualified from the game and lose your entry fee.I hope that makes sense. Let us know if you have any more questions!
