Save yourself a trip to the store by keeping this Homemade Italian Dressing Mix in your pantry! It's an easy recipe that will come in handy over and over 🙂
Homemade Italian Dressing Mix
Dry Italian Dressing mix is a pantry staple that I've found myself reaching for time and time again over the years. But what about those times you need it for a recipe and realize you're all out? This homemade version is delicious and cheaper than buying packets! You can make it in bulk and use it time and time again.
PLUS – there are no mysterious ingredients inside, you can control the amount of salt, sugar, etc… according to your diet 🙂
Ingredients for Homemade Italian Dressing
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tsps garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp onion powder
- 2 Tbsps Italian Seasoning
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Tbsps salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
Directions (Get ready…. these are really involved!) 😉
- Mix all ingredients and store at room temperature in a plastic bag or container.
- Or store in the refrigerator or even the freezer!
- Use 2 tablespoons in place of 1 dry Italian seasoning packet.
So simple and I'm betting you have all the spices to make this in your pantry! 🙂 You can head over HERE to grab some spices on Amazon!
If you prefer to make a bigger batch, double the recipe and store in an airtight container. The 4 oz mason jars with lids or the 8 oz mason jars with lids work perfectly for this recipe.

Thanks for this great recipe. I always bought the premixed packets, but lately, the gluten-free ones were hard to find. When I make the dressing, I always add 6 black olives and anchovy paste for extra flavor and make it in a blender. Very good!

Yay, so glad it was helpful for you Anne. I will definitely have to five that a try next time I make it!

I love this mix! I have gluten sensitivity and packaged mixes sneak it in when you least expect it. Thanks for posting it!

Beth says
How long will it last?
Laurie says
Hi Beth! It should last as long as the expiration date of the spices you use! Hope that helps!
Mary Moore says
How do I use it once mixed to make dressing?
Laurie says
Hi Mary! To make it into dressing, mix together 1/4 cup vinegar, 2/3 cup oil, 2-tablespoons of water and 2-tablespoons of the mix! 🙂 Hope that helps!
Nancy Mize says
This should be included with the “dressing” recipe.
But to be totally completely homemade, what’s in the Italian seasoning?
Katelyn - PPP Team says
For the Kroger brand one I used the ingredients listed are Rosemary, Thyme, sage, Oregano and marjoram! I hope that helps.
