Jamie here!
It's Valentine's Day! While I don't normally put on makeup for my work-from-home job, I'm breaking my rule today so I can be ready for feeling cute and flirting with my husband. 😉 I'm nosy and I love to see what makeup my friends and co-workers use every day, so while I was getting ready I thought you might too. Here's my attempt at a “get ready with me” blog post!
Psst… If you like stuff like this – you'll definitely want to go see what's in Laurie's Makeup Bag too.
Okay (this feels so silly) but here we go and I hope maybe you'll find a product that you like too!
1. Cleanser
First I use Cerave SA Renewing Cleanser. It's my favorite and the salicylic acid helps keep my skin clear! I don't usually use a morning moisturizer because my I use a tinted moisturizer for foundation.
2. Foundation and Concealer!
I HATE thick heavy foundations and my go-to for years was Covergirl BB Cream in Light to Medium. But lately I've wanted a little better coverage so I've moved to Tarte BB Cream Tinted Primer (Light-Medium) and I LOVE it! I just rub it in with my fingers like a moisturizer. It goes on really silky and is super lightweight – feels totally invisible but it really evens out my skin-tone. It also contains SPF and I'm trying to be better about that as I get older….
For concealer, I dab a very small amount of Tarte Shape Tape (Light-Med) on the bags under my eyes and then I swipe some UP and OUT at the outer corners of my eyes to brighten them a bit.
I have found that the ELF 16-Hour Camo concealer (Light Beige) works just as well – I use them interchangeably depending on how tan I am! Since I'm paler right now I'm using the ELF. These are both thick concealers that are somewhat drying – so I have to blend immediately or it will be too dry to do it later.
3 . Eyebrows & Eyelashes!
My eyebrows are nearly invisible and I NEED THEM to frame my face. I can't use an eye pencil because they grab my sparse hairs and pull them out, so I've found that my favorite way to fill in brows is a cream and a little spoolie brush. I use Tarte Big Ego brow pomade in Dark Brown.
It is my FAVORITE (I've tried 6 or 7) and doesn't dry out fast like other creams or waxes. (if you need a cheaper alternative this one is okay too)
Mascara: I most commonly use Essence Lash Princess Mascara in Black- I like that it goes on wet and not dry and crumbly. I'm no mascara expert – I don't layer on extra coats or curl mine or anything fancy, but I probably should because they're nothing to write home about!
4. Blush and Bronzer
Blush and bronzer is my favorite part! I think I probably always wear a little too much blush but I just love feeling rosy. My current favorite blush is Tarte Glowlight Cheek & Lip Watercolor in Sun Flush.
To Apply: I tap the cheek tint out to spread it over the apples of my cheeks and then smoothe it upwards towards my temples. It blends really easily and it's buildable if you want a deeper tint. I love how it makes me look more glowy from within, instead of powdery! Surprisingly it also lasts ALL DAY.
Need a cheap alternative? I also have used FitMe Blush in Berry for years and it's a fantastic backup. It has ZERO sparkle (I don't like sparkle in a blush) so it looks more natural and has good pigmentation.
Bronzer: I finish with a light swipe of Physician's Formula Butter Bronzer (in Sunkissed Bronzer) a heart shape around my hairline, then apply sparingly down the sides of my nose, a little on my cheekbones and under my jaw. I honestly don't know what I'm doing where bronzer is concerned so just try not to go to heavy on it. 🤷♀️ But I love that it brings a bit of glow to my face!
5. Lips…
Mostly I use Lip Smackers or Maybelline Baby Lips in “Cherry Me”. I rarely use lipstick because I just don't like how it looks on me. BUT when I do I use Tarte Marajuca Juicy Lip Cream in IRIS. It's the closest thing I've found to lipbalm! I have it on in the picture above because – Valentine's Day!
All set!
