What's in my Makeup Bag?
I get emails from folks all the time asking what's in my makeup bag, so I thought I'd give you a quick peek! I'm by no means a genius at makeup, but I do have certain things I wear every single day. As a kid (starting around age eight and until I was in my twenties), I had terrible acne, so I've pretty much worn some type of makeup every day of my life to cover up my not-near-perfect skin. Thankfully my skin has finally settled down, but along the way I've found so many products I love!
For the record, this is JUST after putting my makeup on in the morning, and in real life if you ever see me I'm pretty sure I do not look like that! I have pretty oily skin even as I'm getting older and my makeup tends to wear down pretty quickly throughout the day.
I've noticed the Tarte – Shape Tape Stay Spray Vegan Setting Spray seems to be helping with that a bit though. (Also, BEST TIP for photographing? Head to a window and put the camera between you and the window so that you're looking towards the daylight – this pic was taken in the morning at a Southern facing window. Always look towards the light when photographing, it helps! You're welcome.) 🙂
Recently, Tarte cosmetics sent some samples for me to try out, and after listening to Maureen Kelly's story on the How I Built This Podcast (she's the founder of Tarte Cosmetics), I was super excited to try them out.
I'll be super honest with you and tell you that I normally stick to drug store makeup because of prices and wouldn't splurge on these, but now that I have them, I can see why people pay a little more for better quality cosmetics. Most of these last a long time (probably up to 6 months), which definitely helps.
TIP – Use the code PPP15 to get an extra 15% off non-sale Tarte items! Plus, shipping is always free!
Here's what I've loved so far ~ be sure to use the code PPP15 to get an extra 15% OFF! (We'll also keep an eye out for sales on these because I really do think you'll love them!) –
- Tarte – Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer (less expensive alternative).

What is the shade of the Lip Gloss that you use?
The link is towards the bottom of the post. It’s call snow pink. Hope that helps! 🙂
Laurie I have loved Julep cream to powder eye shadows since college. I love both Champagne and Pearl as highlighters, and have fun trying new medium colors like Orchid Shimmer and Rose. I didn’t even think about looking on Amazon for them so thank you. I needed to replenish my stock and found a deal to get 2 for under $20!
You’re so welcome! I’m so glad you were able to grab this deal, Laine!
Hi Laurie! Just wanted to let you know I use Thrive Eye Brightner also & on their website it’s much cheaper -only $24. Just letting you know. 🙂 LOVE all your posts & thanks for all the work involved to share all the info with us!
Does anyone have dry skin? I have dry mature skin and would love any recommendations. From day and night moisturizers to foundations.
I have dry sensitive skin and I love Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel-cream for Extra Dry Skin. It feels so good on my skin and it’s fragrance-free!
I use Mary Kay Repair for mature skin. No problem with dry skin any more. It lasts a long time too.
That’s great! Thanks so much for letting us know. 🙂
I love Mary Kay Creme to Powder foundation! I use a sponge to smooth it on. It’s creamy and easy to use even out and after a few seconds it “dries” to a powder finish. It’s like magic!! I don’t have overly large pores so I don’t know how it would work for those but I do have a redness of my skin and if evens and covers well for that issue. I am a dental hygienist and wear a mask all day so by the end of the day it has woren off a lot but days off it stays put all day!
I love it too! I just have trouble stopping myself from putting too much on my sponge. But a really nice finish! But I too have loves and used the EL Double Wear for most of my adult life.
The Estee Lauder Double Wear really is just such a great option – so glad to know you like it too! 🙂
Does it stay on? I’m thinking of trying it as I need spf in the summer, I use Mary Kay otherwise.
Yes Julie – that’s the best part! 🙂 Most makeup doesn’t last on me so I love this stuff!
Mary Kay has a makeup primer that has SPF in it, to wear under makeup. Also a CC cream with SPF.
Good to know Angie – thanks so much for sharing (I love Mary Kay products when I’ve used them in the past too!) 🙂
