Father's Day Grilling Plate Gift
If your husband is a grill master and you want to create a one-of-a-kind gift this year, this Father's Day Grilling Plate is perfect! This DIY gift is so easy to make, and your kids will love creating something special for dad.
I'm always looking for a sentimental gift for my husband for Father's Day, because I appreciate him and value him and his presence in my daughter's lives, but I also want to come up with a gift that he'll actually use.
My husband does about 75% of the cooking in our household, and definitely loves a good barbecue, so when I saw this idea, and HAD to recreate it!
So, we made a “custom” grilling plate that’ll make him smile every time he fires up the barbecue.
The best part? I used supplies from The Dollar Tree and Walmart so it was a super affordable gift idea.
Materials Needed
- Enamel Craft Paint (you want to make sure it's safe for dishes)
- Paint brushes
- Ceramic Plate (I got mine from The Dollar Tree)
- Rubbing Alcohol
P.S. Don't have time or energy for homemade gifts? We get it!
Here are 5 Fun Father's Day Gifts Ideas that you DON'T have to make!
How to make a Father's Day grilling plate
- Clean your ceramic plate with rubbing alcohol first and let it dry. This gets rid of any dust or oil and helps the paint stick better. Let it dry completely before moving on.
2. Paint your kids' hands with a bright color (red, orange, or yellow work great) and press it gently onto the plate. These handprints will be the “flames” rising from the grill.
3. Next you can use the black paint to customize your plate further. Add a personal message like “Daddy’s Grilling Plate,” “Best Dad Hands Down,” or “Happy Father’s Day.” You can choose! You can also write the names and ages of your kids.
4. I also painted a grill underneath the handprints so that the handprints look like grilling flames.
5. Air dry your design for 1 hour.
6. Place the plate in a cool oven, then heat it to 350°F. Bake for 30 minutes, then turn off the oven. (Note: you want the oven to start cool so that the paint can cure properly to the plate. If you place in a hot oven, the paint will just burn off!)
Once it’s cured, your special Father’s Day plate is top-rack dishwasher safe!
This craft was so simple, but I think it will bring a lot of meaning to our celebration of fatherhood and the father figures in our lives. You could easily make a second plate for Grandpa too!
