Earth Day Craft for Toddlers (Includes Mess Free Painting!)
Earth Day is coming up on April 22. Such a fun day of the year to celebrate the amazing and beautiful Earth we live on. Earth Day crafts are a great way to get kids involved in the fun and think about God's wonderful creation.
Sometimes it can be a little difficult to think of ways to get your littles ones involved since toddlers are known for putting everything in their mouths! But, this mess-free painting is PERFECT for toddlers who aren't quite ready to actually touch the paint yet, and keeps the mess contained so that your home doesn't turn into a life-size finger painting.
Have older siblings who want their own craft? Try this EASY PEASY Earth Day Craft for Preschoolers!
Supplies Needed:
I love this craft because it takes so little preparation and supplies. You can tailor it to any theme, holiday, or just general every day arts and crafts. You'll need:
- White paper plates
- Gallon-size Ziploc bags
- Washable paint (This is a great option with lots of colors or buy in bulk to make it last all summer!)
- Painters tape or masking tape
How to Make Mess-Free Painting
Grab blue and green paint and squeeze in small drops onto a paper plate. You don't have to put too much thought into placement because they're about to get smooshed around!
Carefully slide paper plate into the Ziploc bag. For toddlers, I recommend sealing the zip top with an extra layer of tape. Tape the bag with plate & paint side up onto your surface. This can be done in a high chair or on a table (or even the floor) depending on the age of your kids.
Let your kids have it! They can smoosh the paint around the plate, creating “Earth”!
Since toddlers take boundaries as a personal challenge, don't be surprised when focus turns toward undoing the tape. That will keep them occupied for a few extra minutes 😉
This Earth Day craft is geared towards toddlers but can be fun for older kiddos, as well. My preschooler turned it into letter tracing (ON HER OWN!) which made my mama heart so proud!
Add some extra fun to your Earth Day craft and make these gorgeous and delicious Earth Day cookies!
