Way back in 2009 when I started Passionate Penny Pincher (Publix Penny Pincher back then), I spent hours saving big using coupons, and couldn't wait to share my deals each day.
but then a few things changed.
TLC's Extreme Couponing started.
Printable coupons became more popular.
And it wasn't much later that coupon fraud was on the rise.
When first starting here I honestly had weeks where I fed our family of five for $40 using coupons. (It was so fun ~ goodness there's just nothing like that coupon-crazed-shopping-adrenaline high!)
But then.
My kids got bigger.
I got busier.
And way too often I just don't have time to coupon these days.
Honestly? I kind of miss that coupon-crazed-shopping-adrenaline high.Â
(I know. I need a life. jeesh.)
But I'm not yet convinced the deals aren't there.Â
I've seen people say that couponing is dead.
That it's just not worth it.
And honestly, so many of the places where you (PPP readers) seem interested in saving is online.Â
Which I totally, 100% get.
But. 🙂Â
Folks, let me tell you there are still deals to be had.
For. real.Â
Today I went to Kroger and snagged 10 bottles of shampoo, conditioner and hair spray for 90¢.Â
NINETY CENTS (that's nuts)!
My friend Shannon spent $57 at Publix last week for $149 in groceries.Â
You can also snag FREE Colgate Toothpaste at CVS today,Â
And at Target you can stock up on Bounce, Downy, Tide & LOTS more at some pretty penny pinched prices.Â
Andddd . . . if you're way short on time you can even snag better-than-Walmart-priced-deals-online now too on things like Quaker Oatmeal, Bounty Paper Towels, and even Mrs. Meyer's Cleaning Supplies without ever leaving your home.Â
You know what?Â
I can still be a coupon rockstar. 🙂
And the deals really are still there.
Suc.cess. Â
So if you need to take control of your finances.
If you just can't manage to stay in your grocery budget.
I just want to encourage you that with a little work and research you can save big too.
You're welcome.
I promise, “extreme” couponing (ahem strategic shopping) isn't easy but it can still be worth it. If you feel overwhelmed by your finances I know this really can work, and you are the only one who has control of your finances, so determine to win in this area of your life.
Happy happy happy penny pinching! 🙂Â
It seems the days of clip a coupon and save $1 are gone. You need to clip a coupon, sign up for the store rewards, buy x number of product and get $x to be used on a future trip.
Save 50 cents on 2 boxes of granola bars is nothing when i can get the store brand for 75 cents a box less.
Few coupons in the paper seem to be for food, and its mostly health and beauty.
I go to a lot of garage sales and people are selling their hoards of beauty products for $2 to $4 each. I wonder what they are actually making per hour going through all the work
Even washing my long hair every day, it takes 2 months to go through a bottle of shampoo
And the expiration dates are getting so short. I used to toss coupons in a pile and cut thenout when i did a full stockup run every month and a half. I used to save $30 to $40 on a $100 order, now its like $3-4 as the coupons mostly expired, or aren’t more anything i would buy
I have to tell you, I am lazy and still love to have people put the coupon deals together for me. I notice more and more people I follow have stopped using the coupons and started doing other things but I am not sure they realize that this is why I follow them. Makes my life a bit easier when a great deal is shared and I can run out and not waste time. I want to thank you for making my life a bit easier. I love watching your morning fb lives while I’m working.
Hi Helen! I think you’re right – it’s so much easier when the scenarios are laid out for us! I’m so glad you take time to keep up with PPP and that it helps – thank you for sharing that today!
