Walmart Is Finally Accepting Apple Pay!

WOOHOOO Walmart shoppers, this is the news many of us have been waiting YEARS to hear! Starting August 24th, Walmart is finally adding Apple Pay and other tap-to-pay options to its stores. After years of requiring shoppers to use a physical card, cash, Walmart Pay, or other payment options, Walmart is officially joining the tap-to-pay world!

What’s the scoop?

Starting August 24, Walmart will begin adding Tap to Pay as a payment option at select Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations. This means shoppers will be able to use Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other contactless payment methods right from their phones or compatible smartwatches.

And yes – Apple Pay at Walmart is finally happening! 😀

The rollout won’t happen at every location on August 24, though. Walmart says it plans to expand tap-to-pay to all U.S. Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locationsby the end of 2026. Walmart fuel stations are expected to get the feature by mid-2027.

How Will Apple Pay Work at Walmart?

Once your local Walmart has Tap to Pay, checking out should be much simpler.

Instead of opening the Walmart app and scanning the QR code for Walmart Pay, you’ll be able to hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near the contactless payment terminal and complete your purchase using Apple Pay.

You can use a credit or debit card that’s already stored in your Apple Wallet, just like you do at other retailers that accept Apple Pay.

And if you prefer Google Pay or another compatible contactless payment method, those will be supported, too.

Is Walmart Pay Ending?

Don’t worry – Walmart Pay isn’t going away.

Walmart says its new Tap to Pay option is being added to its existing payment choices, giving shoppers more flexibility in how they pay. Walmart Pay will continue to be available for shoppers who prefer using the Walmart app. In other words, you can finally choose the payment method that’s most convenient for you.

What About Sam’s Club?

Sam’s Club shoppers are getting the new payment option, too! 🙂

Tap to Pay will begin rolling out at select Sam’s Club locations on August 24, with plans to expand it to all U.S. clubs by the end of 2026. Sam’s Club members will also continue to have access to features like Scan & Go, so you’ll still have plenty of ways to speed through checkout.

When Can I Use Apple Pay at Walmart?

Here’s the important dates to note:

• August 24, 2026: Tap to Pay begins rolling out at select Walmart and Sam’s Club locations.
• By the end of 2026: Walmart expects Tap to Pay to be available at all U.S. Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations.
• By mid-2027: Walmart expects Tap to Pay to reach its fuel stations.

So if you head to your local Walmart on August 24 and don’t see the option yet, don’t panic. The rollout is happening gradually, and your store may not have received the update yet.

Honestly, this feels a little overdue. 😂 Apple Pay has been around for years, and Walmart has been one of the biggest retailers that continued to rely on its own payment system rather than traditional NFC tap-to-pay technology.

Now, Walmart is finally giving shoppers the option to simply tap their phone, smartwatch, or contactless card and go. And for anyone who already keeps their wallet tucked away in their purse or uses their phone for practically everything, this could make Walmart checkout a whole lot easier.
