Thermos Food Jars & Bottles Recall

Heads up! If you have a Thermos food jar or bottle sitting in your kitchen cabinet or packed in a lunch bag, you’ll want to check it ASAP. A major recall has just been issued, and the reason behind it is pretty concerning.

🚨 What’s Being Recalled?

The recall involves 8.1 million Thermos Stainless King Food Jars and Sportsman Bottles, including:

These products were manufactured before July 2023 and sold in a variety of colors. You can find the model number printed on the bottom of the container, and the Thermos logo is on the side.

🚨 Why This Recall Matters

The issue comes down to the stopper (lid). These recalled containers do NOT have a pressure relief valve, which can cause dangerous pressure buildup inside — especially when storing hot foods or liquids.

When opened, the stopper can:

  • Forcefully eject
  • Hit users in the face or body
  • Cause serious injuries

Even more concerning:

  • 27 incidents have been reported
  • Some injuries required medical attention
  • 3 people suffered permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye

🚨 What You Should Do Right Now:

If you own one of these products, STOP using it immediately.

Here’s how to get it fixed:

  • For Food Jars (SK3000 & SK3020):
    • Dispose of the stopper (lid)
    • Take a photo of it thrown away
    • Contact Thermos for a free replacement stopper
  • For Bottles (SK3010):
    • Contact Thermos
    • They’ll provide a prepaid label to return it
    • You’ll receive a replacement bottle

Contact Thermos online here or call 662-563-6822 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CT Monday through Friday.

🚨 Where Were These Sold?

These items were widely available at:

They were sold between March 2008 and July 2024, typically for around $30. This isn’t one of those “better safe than sorry” recalls … this one involves real, serious injuries, including permanent damage.

If you or your kids use a Thermos container regularly (especially for hot foods), it’s worth taking a minute to flip it over and check that model number.
