If you're a teacher or homeschooling parent you do NOT want to miss Target's Teacher Discount Days to help save on your back to school shopping! This savings event is back again for 2020 – and there are some exciting changes this year.
THIS year, Target is extending the discount for 6 weeks to accommodate the staggered school start dates and other difficulties educators face.
The 15% Teacher Prep Event will go through August 29th this year.
It will be available for K-12 Teachers, including the following:
- Teacher at daycare center, home daycare, or early childhood learning center
- Faculty/teacher for K-12 school
- Faculty/teacher for vocational/trade/technical school
- Faculty/teacher for college or university
- Home school teacher for K-12 child(ren)
The discount can only be redeemed ONCE during the Target's Teacher Prep Event.
Note: If you live in a state that requires an application to homeschool or a “Notice of Intent to Homeschool”, that may work as proof of homeschooling status. Let us know if that works for you, and if you have any other suggestions, please share those in the comments!

This worked as a homeschool teacher for me last year, but this year, it’s been stuck in “verification pending” for a few days. I didn’t receive an e-mail or any option to upload documentation. (sigh)
Email [email protected]
They are who has partnered with Target.com to offer the discount. I emailed my verification and info and was approved within 3 days. They are backed up with school approaching, but they are working super hard to get to everyone quickly.
Thanks Angel!
The Target APP doesn’t want to download on my phone. It’s pretty stupid that Target no longer lets you print out the coupon for in-store purchases. So, even though I was “verified”, I cannot use the measley discount on the limited allowed items. Bye bye, Target.
I tried uploading our homeschool ID card and then the notice of intent. Each time, it came back as not sufficient proof. Now I’ve reached my limit and can’t try to submit any other forms. Any help?
I live in a state that does not require any documentation to homeschool. I created a .pdf stating that and uploaded it, it was rejected as invalid. I created my own card including all the required information, sent a .jpg of it, and it was also rejected as invalid. I’ve now sent SheerID an email stating all of this, but they have not responded yet.
I live in IL and you don’t have to do anything to homeschool in the state. I was able to use my counties home educators membership card to get verified.
Thanks so much for the information Dawn!
Did the discount include clothing last year? I cannot remember if it was them or someone else. If it did, does it work this year?
It won’t verify me. I put Homeschool and Homeschool teacher but it asked me to upload documents. Didn’t have anything except my ID from Texas Home School Coalition and it came back as invalid, can not verify. Not sure how they are supporting homeschoolers if they require official documents that we don’t have!
If you live in a state that requires an application to homeschool or a “Notice of Intent to Homeschool”, that may work as proof of homeschooling status. Let us know if that works for you (and if anyone else has any suggestions, please leave a comment to share those too!)
Same problem! I’m in Illinois and they require NOTHING for home school so I always use a coop id card. This time it’s coming back invalid with no way to contact anyone! Guess I’ll shop Amazon instead of Target
I finally got it! Get a free ID made (Google home school ID and pick a free one, a screenshot worked to upload). Where it has you put in your school name, put “Homeschool.” Third try worked
I logged in and got verified….but can’t locate the coupon to print out? Please advise! Thanks!
Kim – you’ll want to download the Target app and inside the app it keeps all your Target Circle coupons and discounts in your “wallet” which has a bar code the cashier can scan. Hope that helps!
I tried this and it didn’t work. This sucks that you can’t just print the coupon like in past years. I quit Target. The discount is very limited, anyway. Bye bye.
Do I need to download the Target app…what wallet are they talking about opening when you have to scan at the register?
Delewon – yes you’ll want to download the Target app and inside the app it keeps all your Target Circle coupons and discounts in your “wallet” which has a bar code the cashier can scan. 🙂 Hope that helps!
I am a home daycare and teach children. I am licensed by the state. How do I get verified?
I wonder if you can upload your license from the state as documentation? If anyone else has any suggestions, please leave a comment to share those too!
I’m having trouble getting verified. I have to type in something for the School section, but I’m homeschooling. It shows different homeschool groups but none would be mine.
There’s one more generic option for homeschooling that might be worth selecting – then, if you live in a state that requires an application to homeschool or a “Notice of Intent to Homeschool”, that may work as proof of homeschooling status. Let us know if that works for you (and if anyone else has any suggestions, please leave a comment to share those too!)
What should I put for the school name if I homeschool?
Try typing “homeschool” and see if that gives you an option Jemmama! 🙂
Type Home School-put a space between and it comes up!
Anyone else having trouble being verified? Every time I try it says I already verified with another account. I only have one account with Target.
Hm – I haven’t seen that before Katie (that’s so weird?) Can you check your Target cartwheel app to see if maybe it’s there (possibly from last year?) If anyone else has any other suggestions, leave a comment to let us know!
This exact same thing happened to me, and SheerID has been USELESS.
Target has included Homeschool teachers since 2018 when Sheer ID became their partner in verifying eligibility. The article makes it seem like homeschool teachers being eligible is new this year and that is not accurate. They have been supporting us for years. I checked my email and have a verification and coupon for three summers now.
Thanks for commenting Christina! We’ll get that updated 🙂
I am a homeschool parent, but only non-homeschool names populate. It will not allow me to proceed without selecting a school name within their list. Is there another way for homeschool parents to get verified?
Type in homeschool and there’s an option to choose.
I tried also and it said I need to upload more documents. Not sure what to upload.

I am not in a state that requires that. I created a .pdf explaining this and uploaded it – rejected as invalid. I created a card that included all the required info, took a .jpg of it, and uploaded it – rejected as invalid. I have now send an email through the contact form at SheerID stating all of this. It should be streamlined for homeschool teachers as well.
