Stores Closed on Thanksgiving Day 2022
Earlier in the year, Walmart and Target announced that they will once again be closing their doors on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th this year…again. And recently Kohl's joined the list, too (you can see their press release here)!
The response from last year’s closure was so positive and in an effort to minimize crowds during the pandemic, the mega retailers with a department store have decided to do it again. Walmart is doing it this year as a way to say “thank you” to their employees for their hard work during the pandemic.
Here's what Kohl's had to say in their press release –
“Last year, Kohl’s served millions of customers both in store and online throughout Black Friday week, and we look forward to delivering that same incredible experience to our customers again this year.
Customers looking to shop Kohl’s on Thanksgiving Day will be able to shop on Kohls.com and in the Kohl’s App. And throughout the holiday season Kohl’s will offer the great national and only-at-Kohl’s brands, and incredible value through Kohl’s Cash and Kohl's Rewards that customers love.”
Here's what Walmart had to say in their press release –
““Fortunately, all of our associates will be able to spend time with their loved ones this year,” Furner said” regarding the company closing on Thanksgiving. From the release this year, it appears that Walmart has no plans in the future to open on Thanksgiving and it sounds like this will be a permanent closure year to year.
And here's what Target had to say back in January of 2021 –
“Cyber Week 2020 was Target's biggest yet with record-high digital orders, site traffic, and orders fulfilled via our Drive Up service. We {also} welcomed 3.3 million new guests to our Target Circle loyalty program in order to earn extra rewards.”
Target in fact, last winter Target announced that all Target Stores will PERMANENTLY close on Thanksgiving going forward! Best to plan ahead for holiday shopping.
And Best Buy will be closed on Thanksgiving Day as well. They'll open their doors bright and early on Black Friday with some of their best sales of the season.
What do you think about these department store holiday announcements??
In years past, many stores have opened up on Thanksgiving night to kick off their in-store Black Friday sales. However, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year will likely be a repeat of 2021 and MANY stores will remain closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th, 2022.

I’m so thankful these major stores are closed on Thanksgiving!! I pray the employees enjoy it as well!
Yes! Hopefully they all enjoy being home with their families:)
They should not close they should serve the public let families shop together on holidays
Family time!
Employees should have special holidays with family and not have to work in retail .. Thanksgiving being one of those days. There are still plenty of days and nights to shop between now and Christmas … ESPECIALLY with internet shopping … convenient and around-the-clock.
Love that they’re going to be closed. People can wait until the next day to shop.
I love that they’ll be closed. Employees matter!
