Thank you Laurie!! That does help – I had a membership at one time that I got for almost free with a deal.. I can’t justify paying full price – again because of the distance for me… I always thought cereal and stuff like that were really high too – thanks for the advice!!

Do you think if you figured in the cost of membership at Sam’s, it would still win?? Just curious as to how often you have to be able to shop there to make it worth it. The closest one to me in about 30 miles away and I have often wondered if a membership would be worth it and how often I would have to get there….
Thank you for these comparisions!! Wish we had a publix around here!! Have shopped there when visiting family in FL and love it!!

I love Sam’s to visit once a month to really stock up on fresh produce, chicken, milk and eggs. But, the best way to get the membership is when they offer some special (like they recently did through Zulily), where you get the card for next to nothing after special offers.
I think my biggest frustration with Sam’s is that while their prices on whole foods are good (meat, produce, cheese, etc.), I think their prices on processed foods (which we probably don’t need anyway!) is so high compared to grocery stores using coupons. I always want to stop people who are shopping for cereal there and just tell them to wait for a sale, because I know they’re paying too much! But, for your basic items I do think Sam’s prices can be reasonable (and lately I think Walmart is so pricey that they’re definitely better than those prices as well.) Hope that helps a little Becky!

I feel the produce at Aldi’s is inferior to Sam’s and Publix. It has been our experience that the produce is not as tasty or lasts as long.

We find HUGE boneless, skinless chicken breasts (not pre-frozen) for $1.88/lb at Sam’s Club lately. I hope this is a deal that sticks around as it is a great deal!
I also love to buy spices at Sam’s club, I buy Oregano for $3.68 for 5 oz and Basil for $2.88 for 5.5 oz. I don’t think there is a better price per ounce than that, considering Aldi is around just over an ounce for $1. These are spices I use often and so i think they are a great deal!
When they run $3 or $4 off of toilet paper, paper towels or trash bags they are a great deal, but I love their trash bags (white tall kitchen Sam’s brand ones) and they are all I buy!
Shannon says
I will have to look at the spices next time I go Michelle! The chicken is a great deal! We just bought the trash bags and are really pleased with them. They were such a great deal. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the comparison! I really try to love Aldi, but it is always hit or miss with the quality of produce. We go through a ton of fresh fruit and veggies and Sams always wins out (or publix in a pinch!)
Laurie says
I definitely think the produce at Sam’s is worth it a lot of the time, but if my family is going to eat it quickly, I do love Aldi too! 🙂

Sam's cheese is slightly cheaper than ALDI USA, but only slightly.
I go to Sam's to fill up my gas tank, buy diapers, and formula!
