How to Make your DIY Mother’s Day Keychain:
(P.S. The kit will also come with these instructions, too!)
- Generously coat your child’s hand with acrylic paint. You want full coverage, but not so much that the paint drips and blurs the print.
2.   Carefully press their painted hand onto the rough side of the Shrinking plastic. Gently press down on each finger and the palm to get a full, clear print.
3.   Hold the plastic steady with one hand and slowly lift your child’s hand with the other. Take your time on this part to preserve all those sweet little fingers!
4.   Allow the paint to dry completely. Once dry, use a Sharpie to write your child’s name, age, or the year—this makes it extra special.
5.   Carefully trim around the handprint using sharp scissors.Â
6.   Before baking, don’t forget to punch a hole in between the fingers of your print or near the base of the palm—this is where your keyring will go.
7.   Preheat your oven to 325°F. Place the handprint paint-side up on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 2–3 minutes—watch as the plastic curls, shrinks, and flattens. It’s done once it lies mostly flat again.
8.   Once cooled, paint the sealant onto the painted side of the plastic, this will help your handprint keychain last longer!
9.   Attach the jump ring through the hole and connect it to your keyring. It can be a little tricky to open these rings, so if you have any jewelry pliers, it's way easier!
And now you have the sweetest little keychain gift for Mother's Day!
This isn’t just paint and plastic—it’s a reminder. Of little giggles, messy fingers, and time spent together. Whether it’s a gift from your child to a grandparent or a project you do together, this tiny treasure will bring a smile every time you reach for your keys!
