This chili board has your favorite chili recipe with ALL the fixings! It's so easy to put together and a major crowd pleaser. Here's how to make it.
How to make a Chili Board
One of my favorite ways to serve food is on a giant board with all the yumminess scooched in together! And, if you're hosting any gathering (big or small) this fall or winter, a chili board is the PERFECT way to feed a crowd!
Although it may sound complicated, creating a chili board is actually crazy easy! You just start with your favorite chili and surround it with your favorite chili fixins'!
So, whether you're hosting a pumpkin carving party, a Bible study group, birthday party, or just having your adult kids and their spouses over for Sunday dinner – try this yummy chili board to serve up some smiles.
Here's how to make it!
What to include on a chili board
There are SO many toppings and accompaniments for chili depending on your taste! Chili pairings can even vary based on where you live so brainstorm some favorites of your family and friends to add to your shopping list.
Here are some suggestions to get you started:
- Chips & crackers – Frito scoops, oyster crackers, Goldfish, even pretzels
- Cornbread (of course!)
- Cheese
- Sour cream
- Noodles (if noodles are not part of your chili recipe, you can serve some cooked but plain noodles on the side)
- Add some spice – jalapenos, hot sauce, peppers
- Veggies – these help to add some color to your board! Celery or carrot sticks, mini bell peppers, red onions, sliced avocado
Some other fixings to pair with your chili board may not necessarily go on TOP of the chili but taste great on your plate!
- Pretzel bites
- Tater tots
- French bread
- Hawaiian sweet rolls
- Mac n cheese
When I asked our PPP team what their favorite chili fixings are – maybe the most fun answer was…cinnamon rolls?! I didn't put these on my board but honestly any excuse to make and eat cinnamon rolls is okay in my book! Have you tried this??
How to make a chili board
You can serve up a chili board on any surface you have available. If you can't give up table space, set up a counter buffet instead!
I'm using my extra long charcuterie board for this (I seriously love this thing – it is so sturdy and fun!) and placing on my dining table.
Start by cooking your chili (my recipe cooks in the crockpot so I transferred to my Dutch oven for serving). If you're serving where folks will walk along in a line, start with your chili on one end with bowls for easy scooping. Then, place your toppings along in an order they might add them – I'd do things that go ON the chili first and then side dishes.
If you're serving on a board like mine, place your chili first and anything in a dish – these are way easier to move around if you need! Then, place your larger items like cornbread, veggies, etc. Finally, fill in with the items you'll pour like crackers and chips.
