How to Keep Glasses from Fogging Up With Face Masks

Wearing face masks as we go out in public has become the norm – especially since many stores have begun requiring face masks.  And the more we have them on, the more some of us are noticing that there’s an issue…. our glasses keep fogging up!

It can be a real problem – but PPP Team Member Cheree has been working on finding a solution.  Here’s what she’s found that works for her!

Cheree here!  I have bought a few cute masks to wear during COVID-19, but some of them were just awful at getting fogged up.  I did some research to help find the best face masks to use and also a handy coating you can apply to your glasses.  So far so good!

1 . Get a Mask with a Nose Bridge

My number one tip would be to find a mask with a nose bridge.  This is HUGE for helping keep warm air from escaping up through the top to fog your glasses.

My husband Russ purchased this face mask from Amazon.

This one works so well and glasses don’t fog at all! I like the fact that it has the nose piece and it doesn’t move around, but the snout is just too large for me. But if that doesn’t bother you this one is a GREAT option to help with foggy glasses.

I got this 50ct Pack of Disposable Masks with nose bridges at Home Depot for $29.99.  (You can get these similar ones on Amazon as well!)

They just fit my face well and seem smaller.  These disposable masks with the nose piece have worked the best for me. But I’ll be honest, I haven’t tried a cloth mask that had a nose piece so I might change my mind later on. Right now though I’m sticking with the disposables when I’m out for long periods of time.
I like them pretty well but they seem a bit hot right now and my glasses do fog up when wearing them. But this winter I can see myself wearing these more with an anti-fog coating.  Speaking of….

2 .  Try an Anti-Fog Coating

Anti-Fog Spray

Now I’ve used this anti-fog spray a few times and I think it helps a little – but gosh some of the reviews are so bad I hate to even recommend it!

Home-made anti-fog coatings are FREE, so you might want to give these a try instead:

Soap & Water

Immediately before wearing your face mask, wash lenses with soapy water (choose a dish soap that does NOT include lotion) and shake off the excess. Then, let them air dry or gently dry with a soft tissue

Shaving Cream

Rub shaving cream on the lenses and wipe dry.

NOTE: If you have special coatings on your lenses, check with your optician before applying a coating so you don’t ruin them.

3 . Use the Bridge of  Your Glasses to Seal Your Mask

If your mask doesn’t have a nose piece – pull your mask fabric higher up onto your nose.  Then OVER the mask, use the bridge on your glasses to push down the fabric of your mask and mold it to the bridge of your nose better.

Have you discovered any clever hacks to keep your glasses from fogging up while wearing a face mask?  I’d love to hear your ideas!

Regarding the masks. I had read somewhere to put double sided tape across (disposable with nose piece) the top and can use on the sides. I do this to mine, pinch the nose piece down to mold to the nose and to slightly press down on the tape. It allows me to breathe and my glasses don’t normally fog.

When buying disposable masks in bulk, (or any masks) and hand sanitizers please consider where they are made and where your hard earned money is going. Hopefully the USA ?

  3. ALISA Viz says

The disposable masks work best if you simply twist the ear loops once, creating an X on each side. This makes the mask flush to your cheeks to keep the air from escaping up toward your glasses. Also it creates a pleat that runs horizontally so your breathing escapes through the sides. I also put a drop of peppermint oil in my mask. It really helps you breathe better when wearing a mask.

  4. Kerry says

Those masks with the little round filters do not protect anyone else. The filters are designed to expel unfiltered air so that it’s easier to breathe…. which makes nearby friends susceptible to the wearer’s germs. Please reconsider promoting those masks.
