Many stores are now requiring face masks, and you may be in need of a mask but not have access. Here are 8 ways to get a free face mask!

In addition to FREE COVID-19 Tests, the federal government is distributing 400 million FREE N95 face masks for adults. The masks are available now at most pharmacies & community health centers and should be at all locations by early February (limit 3 per adult).

The CDC says that these well-fitting N95 masks offer “the highest level of protection” against COVID-19, providing much better coverage than standard surgical masks.

Where Can I Get a Face Mask For Free?

While face masks are highly encouraged and required at many businesses, usually they’ll also hand you a cloth mask if you don’t have one available. Stores offering free face masks include Walmart, Walgreens, Target, Sam’s Club, Kohl’s, CVS, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Best Buy, Whole Foods, and more.

Local agencies across the US also offer free face masks.

Texas — Get 4 face masks from certain COVID-19 testing sites in Texas
Washington — Washington state public health is offering two cloth face masks free if you meet income requirements. They have 3.6 million available.
Utah — Any Utah resident who doesn’t have a face mask, or who may be returning to the workplace or going out in public without one can apply for a free mask
Chicago, IL — Chicago’s Transit Authority is giving away free kits with hand sanitizer, a reusable cloth mask, and a guide with healthy riding tips. These are only available between 8 – 10 AM on certain days at a few stations.
New York, NY — NYC is distributing free face coverings in parks, Get Food NYC meal sites, NYCHA buildings, certain Mitchell-Lama buildings, and select grocery stores.
Raleigh, NC — Local fire stations are offering masks. Check out which Fire Stations and Departments in North Carolina are offering this service.
