This DIY Halloween welcome mat is SO cute and costs only $10 to make yourself!
DIY Halloween Welcome Mat
If you're looking to spruce up your front porch for Halloween and delight those little trick-or-treaters, this DIY Halloween welcome mat is perfect – and costs just $10 to make at home!
Decorating for seasons or holidays can get so pricey, so we love a DIY that is budget-friendly but *looks* high-end! You don't need any special supplies to make this fun welcome mat, and everything can be grabbed at Walmart. Here's how to make it.
Supplies for this DIY
- Plain coir doormat in size 18″x30″
- One bottle of black acrylic paint (make sure it says indoor/outdoor)
- Halloween cookie cutters
- Paintbrush
- Optional – you can seal the mat with this spray when you're done if your porch gets a lot of sun or weather. This puts the total over $10 but is worth it to keep your mat looking great for next year
How to make this Halloween Welcome Mat
Grab your favorite cookie cutter shapes. I used just the bat but you can pick any fun mix!
Using your paintbrush, apply a little paint to the thin cutting part of the cookie cutter, making a stamp. Then, press the paint-side down onto your mat. I didn't pick a specific pattern for my bats, just placed randomly around with 3-4″ between bats.
You'll have an outline of your shape and can fill in the middle and fix any details on the outline with your paint and brush.
Repeat for your entire welcome mat, until you've got the final design you like! Let the paint dry completely. If you're applying a sealant spray, spray outdoors or in a well-ventilated area and let dry completely.
All set and ready for porch visitors!
Now, wouldn't this be so cute for a Christmas mat?! I'm thinking little gingerbread men…stay tuned!
