Flags & Bows Garland DIY – So Darling!
PPP Contributor, Hannah, here! 👋
With a household full of three daughters, we have definitely hopped on the “bow trend” (have you seen bows everywhere lately too? 🎀). So when I spotted a patriotic flags and bows garland, I knew I had to recreate it! The best part? It was super affordable to make, too!
This DIY patriotic garland is so simple, anyone can make it! If you can use a glue gun, you can make this banner. It’s the perfect festive touch for your 4th of July celebrations!

Materials Needed:
- Mini American flags (you can find these at The Dollar Tree)
- Thicker ribbon (I used 1.5″ frayed red, white, and blue ribbon from Hobby Lobby)
- Thin ribbon (1/4″ thick red, solid ribbon)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
- Clear hair elastics (optional, for making bows)

How to make a 4th of July Flag and Bows Garland:
Carefully remove the wooden sticks from each mini American flag.
Lay out your ribbon to your desired length. Using a hot glue gun, glue the flags onto the ribbon, leaving a few inches of space between each flag for the bows.

Create small bows using your red, white, and blue ribbon. Instead of tying the ribbon into traditional bows, I used clear hair elastics to secure them in the middle. This helped the bows stay symmetrical and made the process even easier.

Use hot glue to attach the bows in the spaces between the flags. I also ended up gluing white bows on top of the flags too.

Once the glue has cooled, your patriotic banner is ready to display! Hang it across a mantel, along a porch railing, over a dessert table, or anywhere that could use a festive touch.

Pro Tip: Mix different ribbon textures and widths for extra dimension!

I love how this DIY patriotic garland adds such a fun, festive touch without spending a lot of money. It’s one of those crafts that looks like you put in way more effort than you actually did (my favorite kind of DIY! 😉).
