I saw this incredibly clever idea over on Pinterest and thought to myself “huh. . . that should be EASY!”  And, it was . . . kind of. But, being the penny-pinchin' girl that I am, I managed to make it a little more difficult than it needed to be.
My hubby purchased some boards a few weeks ago for a project (that didn't work out . . . ) so I had a board in my garage just itching to be used 🙂  Unfortunately, it was also warped, which means a little difficult to hang!  This weekend I'm hoping I can convince my husband to cut 16″ off the bottom (which will hopefully remedy a wee bit of the warped issue . . .) and then we'll hang it next week.  It's also very heavy, so he's a little worried that it will pull out of the wall (so, when you do this, buy a lighter board!)
Here's how I did it:
Crazy big board . . . $5 at Lowe's.
Black chalkboard paint . . . free in my garage 🙂  (Leftover from an old project . . . )
Used a white Sharpie marker to create the lines (don't forget to use that 40% off Hobby Lobby coupon or 20% off Michael's purchase ).  The number stickers were on clearance at Michael's (which seemed way easier than making my own!)
My plan is to let the kids add their height in chalk as they go, but to keep their running total on the side of the ruler (I bought a fine-lined Sharpie for that, and the board is so big that I'll have plenty of room for their initials and date!)
What I love about this is that we can take it with us if we ever move and see how our children have grown. Â And, since my eleven-year old is all about measuring his height these days, he's loving it! Â (I tried to convince my husband to cut the board to 6′ 1/2″ feet, but he thought that would limit Jackson's growth. Â Seriously???)
What about you?  Have you made any fun crafts this week?  Here are a few of my favorite ideas found this week on Pinterest (you can follow me under ppennypincher if you’d like to get started . . . I love that place!) Â
- Beautiful Front Porch
- Chocolate Pumpkin Cake
- Halloween Peeps in a Jar

- Simple Christmas Candles  I have a feeling this will be a future Friday Fluff Up, just gotta wait for BOGO Cranberries!
If you have a blog and have done a little fluffing in your home, I’d love to see it, so leave your link in the comments section.  Also, if there’s a craft you’ve seen on a website that you’re hoping to make, feel free to share that link as well (I’m always looking for new ideas!)

that is too precious!

About hanging it. Find the stud, (tell your husband he’s it) and use wood screws to attach to the wall. You can easily remove it if you move, but meanwhile it will be firmly attached.

Thanks Jennifer! My husband said the same thing about needing to find a stud – I’m just hoping it’ll be centered on the wall too. . . hoping he decide to work on it this weekend 🙂
