After months of looking at a bare wall above my daughter's new dresser, I finally decided it was time for a little Fluffing Up! While hanging out on Pinterest (my absolute favorite place to hang out these days . . . ), I saw this idea for inexpensive wall decor, and I'm so glad I finally took care of that wall. Â (It's been driving me nuts!) Â Here's what I started with . . .
I've stared at that barren wall for at least six months now – arghh!
The frames were taken down recently from our stairwell when we re-painted, so I spent only $2 on inexpensive scrapbook paper, and updated Reagan's walls . . .
And in case you'd like a peak into my littlest's room, here's her tee-tiny bedroom.
Reagan has quite possibly the smallest bedroom ever, as our home had a large playroom but was short an extra bedroom upstairs when she was born. Â Since our children range fairly widely in age, my husband divided the playroom into two rooms – a fairly large playroom but pretty tiny bedroom for her. I figure we'll tell her as she gets older that she just has her own wing in our home! Â One of these days my sweet hubby's going to build her a bed with drawers beneath underneath the window, but in the meantime she's up on boxsprings. Â (And yes, I know it's time to find a bedskirt, but I keep hoping he's going to start building any day now. . . ) Â
This is the entrance to her “suite” . . .
And here's what I've decided may stay on her door until she leaves for college (and quite possibly long after that, because she'll always be my baby . . . )   Â

I love this lovely cosy space. I know why it's a rallying point. Has a safe cocoon like feel!
Laurie says
I agree Christine – we just loved it before moving (kind of miss it now even though it is easier to keep a room just a little bigger clean!) 🙂

It's not small, it's cozy… 🙂

What a cute idea! And I’ve been seeing this pinterest thing on fb but had no clue what it was. Guess I need to go check it out.
I’m about to go on the prowl for some fabric for new curtains in my kitchen. We’re repainting a few rooms to freshen up the house and I’m finally ditching all of this c. 2003 color scheme I’ve got going (lots of red, gold, green and brown) in favor of my favorite colors…blues, turquoise, cream, chocolate and coral for punch. This will be my very first sew-it-myself project but they’re just curtains so it shouldn’t be too bad. Fingers crossed!
Laurie says
I have so much of the gold & red stuff, but can’t imagine switching everything! I’ve thought about switching out my pillows (most of the other stuff is pretty neutral gold – just gotta work with what we have!)
Best of luck on the curtains – I made some in our playroom and whew! they were some work. But, sooooo good to accomplish something like that – LOVE your new color scheme!!! 🙂

It will be a long-term project….don’t have the budget to do it all at once! I spend most of my day in the kitchen so we’re starting there first (and it requires the least amount of $$$ to redecorate!). Recycling the art work, table & chairs, and the rug. So aside from the paint and curtains…not a big project at all!
P.S. Love that hat lamp! So sweet for a little girl’s room!

That is too cute! I love homemade artwork. I know everyone is looking at the frames but that lamp is absolutely adorable! I’m inspired to look at things differently again…(thinking about turning an old buffet into a bathroom vanity)…thanks so much for sharing!
Laurie says
Love the buffet idea Kim! That lamp is one of my proudest deal finds – I saw it at a local furniture store 5 years ago for $75 and wanted it so badly but couldn’t justify the money. Sure enough, the following week I went to a local kids consignment sale and they had the same one for $15 . . . I was so happy and five years later I still love it just as much as I did when I bought it (which is saying something!)

Where did you find the scrapbook papers? I’ve only seen a few in packs at Target, but there was slim pickings. I’ve also seen fancy paper at… oh what’s the train toy place in downtown HSV that’s been there forever? Anyway, they have a HUGE selection of really nice papers but probably more pricey than what you found. I’ve been dying to try this project– just have to get myself together to do it. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!!
Laurie says
Check Hobby Lobby – they’re the best! But, if that’s not enough selection, try the Scrapbook store on Hwy 72 West (it’s kind of near Kroger on the other side of the road?)
Stephanie B says
Oh DUH, Hobby Lobby…. 🙂

Yep, same question -Laurie, how do we find you??? You’re not considered my “friend” on FB – even though, you know you truly are!!! Couldn’t start my day without a dose of Laurie! Have a great weekend! And you’re project turned out great!
Laurie says
Thanks so much Susan! 😉 Try ppennypincher – hopefully it’ll show up. I’m there on FB too! (But I never post on my real page, too much work to just keep up with PPP stuff!!!

How can we follow you on Pinterest? I searched for Passionate Penny Pincher, but only found where folks had pinned the website 🙂
Laurie says
Hi Jamie! Look up ppennypincher or Laurie Hise – I didn’t know anyone pinned the website, gotta go look! 😉
In case you couldn’t tell – I love Pinterest!

Thanks so much – be sure to send a picture if you try it!
I forgot to say that the R was made on my cricut, but you could probably buy an inexpensive die cut if you wanted, and I found the “Queen Reigns Here” board at Hobby Lobby forever ago for $4.99 (during their every other week half price sale.)
