Have you ever wondered how to make a Patriotic Wreath with Bandanas? Try this DIY Patriotic Wreath – I think you'll love the end look!
DIY Patriotic Wreath using Bandanas
Note from Laurie ~ My friend Cheree made this super cute ruffle wreath before her son comes home on leave, and I just loved it and thought you'd enjoy it too! Thanks so much for sharing with us Cheree!
We’re getting ready for our son, who is a Marine, to come home on leave in a few days! I thought this DIY Patriotic Wreath was the perfect way to spruce up our front door decor for his arrival. 🙂
Here’s how you can spruce up your door for any patriotic holiday as well. You can probably find all these supplies at the Dollar Tree – except the extra large wreath form. However, they have increased the amount of craft items they have recently, so you may be able to find a grapevine wreath there!
You could also get all of these items right from Amazon for a delivery right to your door. In fact, they have a TON of patriotic decorations available. But let's get started on this bandana wreath!
Supplies for this Patriotic Wreath:
- 6 red bandanas, 6 blue bandanas, 6 white bandanas (Get a Red/White/Blue Bulk Pack or you can try your hand at making your own)
- Glitter Foam Stars (You can use any combination of red, white, or blue stars) or Glow in the Dark stars
- Scissors
- Hot Glue gun and glue sticks
- 18 or 20 inch wire wreath
- Hook for door
How to make a Patriotic Wreath using Bandanas
1. Cut all your bandanas in half.
This is easy because they are already creased! Just cut along the crease, no measuring required!
2. Start with the red and white bandanas.
It was easier for me to roll each bandana from each end to meet in the middle. Once you meet in the middle, fold in half and create a loop around the wreath. Pull the extra fabric through to complete the loop with the ends of the fabric facing outside. Continue doing this while alternating the red and white colors until you have added all of them to your wreath.
3. Repeat these same steps with the small section you have left with all of the blue bandanas.
4. Now, go and fluff all the bandanas to make them really stand out!
Add the self stick stars to the blue section in a random cute fashion. Any pattern is fine, but I tried to make mine a bit like the American flag. I then secured mine with a little hot glue since I’m putting it on my front porch.
I hung my DIY Patriotic Wreath on a door hanger I had on hand. You could probably use a command hook as well. If you need something to hang it with, a cute ribbon, pipe cleaner or floral wire will do the trick!
I used the 20” wire wreath and my wreath is huge! But, I love it! I suggest the 18” size if you want it a bit smaller. This beautiful wreath is perfect for any time of the year!
I purchased all my supplies at Hobby Lobby, but Amazon is a great resource if you want them shipped to your front door! And be sure to see if your Dollar Tree has a lot of these supplies too – for just $1.
