Best Recipe for Lemon Bars – EVER!
I don't want to be dramatic, but this really is the BEST recipe for lemon bars. Someone had to say it!
These bars are so delightfully fresh, with the perfect mixture of tart lemon flavor and sweet powdered sugar topping. Plus, they really are so easy to make – a little bit of work for a huge reward!
I love bringing these to potlucks, parties, and BBQs because they're a little unique and not-your-average dessert. And, if your family doesn't quite care for chocolatey desserts (I can't relate to that BUT I know you're out there 😂) then this is the perfect recipe for you.
Here's how to make the best recipe for lemon bars – ever!
🍽️ MENU TIP: This lemon bar recipe is from week 2 of our Menu Planning Made Easy – Freezer series!
Ingredients for Lemon Bars
- Flour
- Powdered sugar
- Butter
- Eggs
- Sugar
- Baking powder
- Lemon juice
How to make the BEST Lemon Bars:
For this recipe, start by preparing your crust. Preheat your oven to 350° and grab a 13×9″ baking dish. Lightly grease your baking dish using cooking spray or butter.
Combine the flour and powdered sugar using a whisk. Then, you'll cut in your butter until crumbly. This means you'll place the butter into the dry ingredients and use two sharp knives to cut the butter into tiny pieces – using larger strokes so that your cuts also mix in the flour and powdered sugar mixture.
Press the dough mixture into the greased baking dish and bake fifteen minutes. You want only a bottom layer – no need to bring it up onto the sides of the dish.
Meanwhile, make the lemon filling. Combine eggs, sugar, baking powder, and lemon juice in a large bowl. Mix well with a hand mixer.
When your crust is baked, pour the filling overtop of the crust. Bake an additional 25-30 minutes or until the top is lightly browned.
Cool completely and cut into squares. Sprinkle with additional powdered sugar if desired. I definitely recommend doing this for both taste and presentation!

Yes! Prepare the recipe as instructed but skip the powdered sugar topping at the end. Once the bars are completely cooled, add a layer of parchment paper over the top. Then, cover tightly with aluminum foil or plastic wrap.
Lemon bars can be frozen up to 3 months. When you're ready to serve, thaw in the refrigerator over night and cut into squares. Top with powdered sugar before serving.
Do lemon bars need to be refrigerated?
Lemon bars need to be refrigerated after baking. These will spoil on the counter. Plus, they are best served cold so refrigeration is best all around!
