Have I told you lately I just love our local Fresh Thyme grocery store? Well, I do!
Yesterday I ran in to get some produce (their ads carry over from week to week, so you get to double up on their list of special sales deals each Wednesday), and goodness I was tickled with what I was able to get for $13.
$13.
Yay!
Here's what I bought:
- 2 lbs strawberries $1.99 each
- 3 lbs yellow onions $.88
- 5 lbs potatoes $.88
- bag of carrots $.88
- celery $.99
- 2 lbs apples $2.09
- 2 green peppers $1
- 4 limes $1
- 2.21 lbs bananas $1.22
- Total $12.94, saved $8
I also shopped Kroger this week so we already had some fruit at home (I wish I'd waited because the prices were better at Fresh Thyme), and my family devoured those strawberries last night. Our grocery budget is  still staying between $80-$90 each week for our family of five, so I'm pretty pleased with our savings and excited to stay on track so far in 2015!
If you're new to budgeting for groceries I can't begin to tell you how important it is to just get started. It's amazing what you can save when you just choose to stick to your budget (menu planning helps so much!), and I'm betting you can save big in 2015 too. I'd love to hear how your grocery budget looks this week!
Curious about how much real families spend on groceries? This may help.
