Say WHAT? Dollar Tree will soon no longer offer everything for $1 and prices will go up to $1.25?? Here's what you need to know!
Dollar Tree Prices Have Gone Up!
Been to Dollar Tree?? A few months ago, Dollar Tree announced in a press release that they were raising their prices from $1 to $1.25 across ALL Dollar Tree stores nationwide. Several PPP readers mentioned that the prices have already gone up at their stores, and my friend Mary saw it at her store too!
That means everything's NOT going to be $1 anymore?? So sad!
According to the company, the $1.25 price point, which will apply to a majority of Dollar Tree’s assortment, will enhance their ability to materially expand its offerings, introduce new products and sizes, and provide families with more of their daily essentials at a great value.
However, we did spot a few things that were still $1 or less – like select handmade greeting cards, canned vegetables which were TWO for $1, and packets of seeds which were FOUR for $1.
Dollar Tree plans to introduce the new price point in more than 2,000 additional legacy Dollar Tree stores in December and complete the rollout to all stores by the end of the first fiscal quarter of 2022.
…do you think it's still worth shopping Dollar Tree??
(I wonder if they'll change the name of Dollar Tree stores to Dollar Tree Plus?? Speaking of Dollar Tree Plus…keep reading!)
Dollar Tree Plus – What is it??
Dollar Tree recently launched a brand NEW section at select stores called “Dollar Tree Plus” that offers oodles of $3 and $5 items ~ sort of like a mix between Five Below and Dollar Tree!
This new section has been tested in select markets since 2019 and is now available in over 120 Dollar Tree stores (unfortunately it's not available online). It is slowly rolling out in more stores and is now available in over 500 stores. However, a Dollar Tree cashier told me that eventually it will be available in ALL Dollar Tree stores, so it's definitely something to watch for in your area! 😱
Dollar Tree plans to have 500 Dollar Tree Plus stores by the end of 2021 and another 1,500 stores are planned for fiscal 2022. At least 5,000 Dollar Tree Plus stores are expected by the end of fiscal 2024.
They're also planning to add 400 Combo Stores (Family Dollar/Dollar Tree stores) in 2022, with the potential of up to 3,000 over the next several years.
Dollar Tree Plus Locations
Wondering if there is a Dollar Tree Plus near you? While there's not really a super easy way to find out exactly which stores have this new section, you may be able to use the Dollar Tree store locator online and see if your store has this red PLUS! banner located next to it (like pictured below).
Note that the store that my friend Mary visited did NOT have the PLUS! banner located next to it since it just rolled out recently, so be sure to call your local store and ask to see if it rolled out recently.
Wondering what the shelves look like at these new DT Plus stores? My friend Mary ventured over to her local store in Texas after hearing that the items had just hit the shelves. Check out what she found below!
🚨🚨Note that NOT all of the items we found are great deals – they're just an idea of some of the items available. However, you can still use coupons on these name-brand items if you have them to save more.

Why is anybody complacent with a 25% increase when you were paying only a $1 the day before. Inflation is high but still 7-8%, No where near 25%. What other item would you still pay 25% more for. Not many. You have buying power. Shop where it is cheaper.
I thought I left Venezuela! The Venezuelan “Dollar Stores” were the first to start raising prices on low quality items. Now it is happening here. So many parallels over the past year and a half, it honestly frightens me.
The Dollar Tree went to “$1.25 Tee” and just as I predicted to my husband last winter, it is now no different than “Dollar General” or “Family Dollar”. Nothing is $1.00 any more. I understand the markup due to the designed supply chain mess, but the rapid pace to add so-called “plus” items is astounding. POarticularly since Dollar Tree was one of the fastest growing brands prior to the lockdowns. They could have positioned themselves for a “Return to a dollar” when the right administration gets in and fixes the supply chain issues. Instead, they went the route of Dollar General and Family Dollar, offering overpriced goods.
I was just in Walmart shopping for school supplies. I was holding a box of 24 Crayola crayons for $2.77. They were washable crayons. An elderly lady walked by me and said, “You can go to Dollar Tree and get the same thing for $1.00. I shop for all of this stuff there, it is so much cheaper.” (Which of course we all know she meant $1.25 now). Regardless, I was just in Dollar Tree, and I did in fact buy the crayons she was talking about for $1.25. I just was looking at these and wondering why such a difference and realized it was because they were “washable”. I nodded in agreement with her, despite knowing it wasn’t apples to apples. Anyhow, I walked over a couple aisles and saw more crayons. I noticed the exact same box of crayons I bought at Dollar Tree for $1.25…was only $0.50 at Walmart! Don’t fall for the hype.
You nailed it. I wont shop there anymore.
Stores are very dirty! I will not shop there any more.
Yes I still shop at dollar tree. Twenty five cents isn’t going to stop me. I do wish it was still 1.00 but what are yiu going to do. Everything is increasing.
That is so true!
That is way over the current inflation. What many people are going to do is : shop somewhere else
It should . If something were $100 would you be willing t pay $125 instead?
Went there yesterday and was so disappointed. I have been buying the 6-pack of sponges forever. Now, instead of that, the sponges are half the size and $1.25. Saw numerous examples of items $1.25 but smaller. The only positive for me is that they are carrying a lot more different items. If I continue to shop there, I will do it with eyes wide open.
So true
I find myself shopping less at
Dollar tree. More and more I shop at dollar
General .
I am so sad. I see the same items I used to pay a dollar for that are now 5 dollars. The store is dirty and unorganized too. I’ll go to Walmart instead.
They are definitely trying to compete with PopShelf for sure!!!!
They are probably trying to complete with the new store called PopShelf (owned by Dollar General). We just got one in an area just outside of Atlanta and it’s super cute. Definite competition with Five Below.
My local dollar trees have had plus sections for years. There is still plenty of items for $1
There really are not plenty for a $1. Most of the store is 1.25 nearly all the items that used to be $1
They better lower their prices, their going to loose their customers! It looks like they just went from \$1.00 to $5.00 on everything!
I haven’t actually been in and shopped yet, but if it’s what it I can see here online… I might as well go to Walmart or something.
It looks like it s not going to be a $1.00 tree anymore it’s going to be a 5 below. lol
Agree. Not feeling it! Are they moving to be the next Dollar General. If I’m paying $5, I’m going to Walmart.
