Crockpot Lava Cake (So Chocolately – Try It with Ice Cream!)

Crockpot Lava Cake – FULL of Chocolate Flavor!

This decadent chocolate crockpot lava cake only takes about 10 minutes of prep to make up and then the slow cooker does the rest of the work!  The result is rich dessert that will quickly become a family favorite.  Feel free to serve with whipped cream (or make your own homemade whipped cream!) or vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients for Chocolate Lava Cake:

  • butter
  • semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • flour
  • milk
  • vanilla
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • egg yolk
  • sugar
  • cocoa powder
  • hot water
  • light brown sugar
  • whipped cream (optional)
  • vanilla ice cream (optional)

How to make Chocolate Lava Cake in a Crockpot:

  1. In a microwave safe bowl, heat butter and chocolate chips 1 minute. Stir mixture until melted and well blended. May need a bit more microwave time if not melted.
  2. Stir in flour, milk, vanilla, baking powder, salt, egg yolk, 2/3 cup sugar and 3 tablespoons cocoa until well blended.
  3. Spread evenly into a sprayed 4 quart slow cooker. Stir together hot water, brown sugar, remaining 6 tablespoons cocoa powder and ⅓ cup sugar until well combined. Pour over batter into the slow cooker
  4. Secure a paper towel under the lid of the slow cooker and cook on high about 2 hours or until top is set and browned.
  5. Turn slow cooker off and let stand 30 minutes before serving. Top with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, if desired.

Remember that slow cookers can vary in size as well as how quickly they heat up, so be sure to keep an eye on your crock the first time making this so you can be sure your lava cake doesn’t burn!

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1 cup sugar divided
  • 9 Tbsp cocoa powder divided
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar packed
  • vanilla ice cream optional
  • whipped cream optional

What can you serve with slow cooker chocolate lava cake?

This chocolate lava cake is delicious on it’s own, but many people like to enjoy it with a drizzle of chocolate sauce and a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.  You can also switch up the flavor of chips or ice cream for different flavor.

This would also be perfect with fresh blueberries or strawberries!

What’s the difference between lava cake and molten cake?

Desserts like this crockpot lava cake tends to be more pudding like throughout the dish while a molten cake tends to have one center area that is softer.
