Couch Cover Makeover
Hi all – Mary here!
Do you love a fluffed up home, but aren't sure what to do with certain spaces in your home?? I can relate! I've been slowly trying to redecorate our front dining room space for years and turn it into a “sitting room” so that we could get more use out of the space, but it's been a very slow process.
BUT … how am I supposed to turn a dining room into a sitting room/office space without spending a fortune?? (Side note…are dining rooms even a thing anymore?)
When we decided to change the space from a formal dining room to a sitting area over 10 years ago, we needed to fill it with furniture that we didn't have yet. We purchased these brown leather couches shortly after we moved into our home from a furniture company that was going door-to-door selling inventory to new home buyers.
Because we needed to fill the newly empty dining-room-turned-sitting-room, we jumped on the opportunity to save on some furniture (even though they probably weren't the best pieces for that space??). We also filled the room with a bunch of coordinating reds, browns, and gold colors. YIKES!
Over the years, I've made little changes as we've switched up our decor. I replaced the dark red rug for an ivory rug, swapped the brown/red pillow covers for these, and added a white accent chair from The Home Depot.
But more recently, I've been wanting to make the room a little brighter still (the natural light is great!) and felt those brown leather couches were an eyesore. While they've held up pretty well over the years, they've been through a lot with three kids and several pets and were starting to look faded, saggy, dark, and dreary.
I kept thinking …how can I brighten up this space on a budget??
I thought about donating the couches and getting all new furniture. But that's so expensive.
I wondered if painting the walls might help. But what if we pick the wrong color?
Then, I wondered if maybe couch covers might help?? But what if they don't look nice?
I turned to Amazon and I read all sorts of reviews for couch covers, but was a little hesitant that they'd actually work. Every review photo I saw just didn't look as promising as I was hoping… I wanted that “brand-new-couch-look” without the “slouchy-couch-cover-look” – if that makes sense. 😂
However, after measuring my couches, I decided to take the risk and buy this cover for the loveseat and this one for the larger couch (besides, if they didn't work, I could just return them!). And boy am I pleased with how they transformed those couches and brightened up the whole room – all for under $85!
TIP – For a slightly more “tailored fit”, I used these bed straps on each cushion and a few furniture tacks for the bottom of the couch covers. I also sprayed both couches with Scotchguard fabric water shield.
From brown/dark to white/bright, I'm pretty happy with how everything turned out! 🙂
Have you used couch covers before? If you're looking to fluff up your furniture or space, I definitely recommend these couch covers (and no, this is not sponsored)!
