Trinket Tray Thankful

How to Make your Own Trinket Tray

I love this cute trinket tray, and it would make such a delightful gift for someone – great for teacher appreciation, Christmas, Birthdays, or just because!

Supplies for a DIY Trinket Tray

Supplies for this Terracotta Trinket Tray:

  • Terracotta tray – I used the 4″ inch size
  • White paint – I used the acrylic kind sold at craft stores
  • Foam brush
  • Stencil of choice – purchased mine at Hobby Lobby
  • Gold paint pen or gold paint – found at most craft stores

Painting Trinket Tray

You’ll want to start by painting your terracotta tray white.

Painting Terracotta Tray White

Be sure to paint the bottom side too to finish the look.

stenciling trinket tray

Once the paint is completely dry, center your stencil on the tray.  We chose a simple “thankful” phrase for this trinket tray so that it could be used just about anywhere and just about in any season too.

Adding Stencil and painting

I then used my gold paint pen and went right over the stencil.  (some paint pens bleed so you could trace the stencil with pencil then use your pen to fill in if you prefer)

Remove stencil carefully.

Allow to dry completely and you’re done. So much fun to have for your home or customize for a gift.

What is a trinket tray and what can you use it for?

These tiny trays are usually used for keeping small pieces of jewelry together – but it doesn’t have to only be used for that!  We have seen these used for holding soaps, loose change, keys, even tiny plants! (A tiny succulent would be DARLING for some of these trays!)

They’re also great for keeping things like hair accessories or tiny office supplies together.  And one of the best things when you create your own trinket tray is you can customize the colors and any words you add.
