I know I’m a little late getting this treat recipe up this week, but it’s been a zoo around here!  (If you’ve got a few little ones running around your house, I’m betting you understand!)  Well earlier in the week when I noticed that the Rice Krispy Treats were on sale at Publix for $1.99 (and there are rarely Rice Krispy treat coupons around), I decided that I needed to make some on my own.  I just can’t imagine paying a full $1.99 for only eight treats, especially when that’s the sale price – CRAZY!

Of course my favorite store-bought Rice Krispy Treats are the ones with the little chocolate chips on top – I LOVE those things!  So that’s what we made at our house too, and they turned out just perfectly for a fraction of the cost!  Here’s what you’ll need . . .

5 cups rice krispy cereal We had 3 boxes stockpiled – I’m hoping you do too! You can use $1.50/2 Kellogg’s Cereals, but wait until they go BOGO again!

4 cups marshmallows Be on the lookout for $1 off tearpad when you buy Hershey’s, Honey Made Graham Crackers, and Kraft Marshmallows – the Honey Made Grahams are BOGO $3.99 this week!

1/4 cup butter or margarine we used margarine

1/2 cup semi-sweet mini chocolate morsels Publix brand $1.99 for 2 cups

Melt butter or margarine on low heat on stove.  Once melted, add marshmallows and continue to cook on low until the marshmallows are melted.  Press into greased 9×13 pan, sprinkle chocolate chips evenly on top of rice krispy treats.  Spray a spatula with Pam, and press treats down to flatten.  Cool for a few hours until “krisp-ier” and enjoy!  (Of course, they didn’t make it to the “krispy” phase at our house! 🙂 )   Serves 20.
