How Do I Get My Advance Child Tax Credits?
If you already filed your 2020 Tax Return, you won't need to do anything. If not, the IRS will use 2019's return.
Your check will be direct deposited to your bank, or mailed to you as a check. I know most of us have gotten our checks much faster if we chose direct deposit, versus those who had to wait on a physical check.
If you have not (or do not) file – you'll need to head over to the IRS website to give them some information.

And yet those of us single moms who alternate claiming children as dependents with our ex will be out…i just hope my ex has deferred the payments so that I will get the entire tax credit when I file my taxes. If he takes the advance payments, I don’t know how I can get them, or the full amount…he claimed our daughter in 2020, I claim her in 2021…he claimed that the stimulus payments were a tax credit and since he was claiming her (we were still married in 2019, so we both claimed her but the payments were sent directlyto him), he kept them all…now I’m claiming her, but it is based off last year’s taxes. ♀️
