It's Day 4 of our Be Awesome in April Spring Cleaning Challenge, and because of our crazy schedule I only tackled laundry today!Â
If you missed my Facebook live you can watch it here.
While I didn't take on any extra cleaning work, I've started a new laundry routine and I promise it will change your life.Â
Here's what I've done (seriously, YOU WILL LOVE THIS!)
- Purchased 4 matching laundry containers from Home Goods. (I couldn't find these online ~ check your local TJMaxx or Home Goods for something similar!)
- On Monday and Thursday mornings ONLY, kids have to bring all the laundry from their rooms to the laundry room. (If it doesn't get washed on those days, they have to take care of it themselves.)Â
- No later than 7AM (as my older two head off to school) I sort and start the first load of laundry ~ always towels first. Since those require the most work folding for me and I tend to be the most purposeful earlier in the day.)
- Once each load is done, I immediately (like, right away!) sort the loads in their baskets. (I don't fold them at all, however I do try to kind of drape them over the edges of the basket so that their clothes aren't wrinkled before they get home from school)
- I fold or hang my husband's and my own clothes, as well as fold all the towels.
- In the evening, each child is responsible for folding and putting away their own basket of clothes.
- The rest of the week, my laundry room stays clean and tidy, and I don't feel this overwhelming send of having to do laundry every single hour of my day! 🙂
This has worked really well with our kids ages 10 – 18, and I think would work for kids as young as 7 or 8. I've heard some folks have their kids do their entire laundry from start to finish, however to make sure we don't waste water I like to do the loads all at one time and only wash full loads.
Success!
It's crazy how happy that makes me feel about my house. 🙂Â
So my laundry is all done, and this morning on Facebook I also shared that my oldest turned 18 today, so I made his all time his favorite No Bake Chocolate Eclair Cake too.Â
Whether your home is exactly what you're dreaming of or not, I encourage you to at the very minimum today declutter your kitchen, wipe down your countertops, and scrub out your stink. I promise it will make your whole home feel happier today too!
I've been using Mrs. Meyer's and Method Cleaning supplies, and y'all, IÂ really really (really!) do love them.
My favorite products that I used today were the Mrs. Meyer's Vinegar Cleanser for my stainless steel sink and fridge (I hadn't used that one before but quickly fell in love!), the Method Daily Granite (I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ONE), and the Mrs. Meyer's Bluebell MultiSurface Concentrate for inside the cupboards.
