Have you ever wanted to give your space a little makeover in the easiest possible way? Reader Lori surprised the pants off of us when she posted this before and after shiplap project she did in her foyer!
She said she was unhappy with the current look and it just didn't feel homey to her… so she give it a facelift.
But instead of going through all the hassle of ship-lapping the walls…
She painted it Marshmallow white and grabbed a Sharpie!
A SHARPIE.
The after is amazing – I would have had no idea that wasn't shiplap if she hadn't told us!
Here's how she did it in her words:
I decided to make my own shiplap with black sharpies! I painted the walls a marshmallow white, measured and taped, and went to town on drawing in my lines. After a lot of online shopping, my foyer finally feels more like me. I still have a few things to fix up, but my point is, THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX! I absolutely it.
I went through about 6 Sharpies varying in size. Fine point and chisel tip worked the best. The chisel tip helped fill it faster and the fine point allowed me to go back over and right along the edges of my tape line.
Here are the items she used for her makeover:
Lattice Trellis Square Rug 5'3″ x 5'3″ – $39
20″ Black Round Mirror – $39
Haus & Hues Framed Botanical Prints, Set of 4 – $59
Floating Black Wall Shelves, Set of 2 – $54
Lemon Tree – $32.99
Eucalyptus Wreath – $16.99
Welcome Pillow – $8.99
This SHOULD be easy to paint over if she ever sells – although it might take some Kilz primer to prevent bleed through.
What do you think? Would you give this Sharpie DIY a try? Great job Lori and thanks for letting us share your cozy little foyer!

That looks so pretty and homey! I think I need to give it a try.
Would you share color and brand of paint on top half of walls?
